Afterthoughts |
We’ve
learned 3 things during the research project, namely
proceed-things-as-planned, charity and teamwork. If one
doesn’t
deliver on time, things shall pile up. During the charity
sale
preparation, our teacher reminded us that charity is evaluated not
according to amount of money but wholeheartedness. Teamwork
is
one of the most valuable experiences. We learned about
sharing
duties and responsibilities, shouldering consequences.
Eventually
ties between team members are strengthened.

Upon finishing the 1st interview, I regretted
that I
didn’t memorize and fully comprehend the questions. I should
have
conducted the interview with my own words instead of reading
script. I could not respond when an interviewee asked me a
question. Since I didn’t pay full attention during the
interview,
it took a lot of effort in re-listening to the audio records and
consolidating the interview documents.107.10.31

To facilitate adoption of Junyi by
Grade 3, we had to prepare a
powerpoint based briefing in advance. I was assigned the
Proficiency
Process. I gathered information, discussed with others,
prepared my
presentation pages and rehearsed before getting into Grade 3
classrooms. I think presentation preparation is
fun. I thought using
powerpoint is cool when I was in Grade 3. I’m happy that I am
capable
of using it on my own now.I like designing
medallions. Our
medallion sold out quickly during Sports Day. I am happy and,
on the
other hand, disappointed. I am happy because others like our
medallions which gave me a strong sense of achievement. I am
disappointed because I wanted the very-rare medallion myself which was
bought by someone else.107.11.30
We found that the preparation
of the Challenger Event for Grade 3 pupil were not as simple as we have
initially thought, e.g. the Labyrinth game could not be too difficult
otherwise it would have taken too long. If it was too simple,
they
would not have found it challenging. We had to play with game
ourselves and make adjustment again and again until we all agreed that
it fit with Grade 3 pupils. As gatekeeper of the Robot Gate,
I spent
quite a lot of time explaining the rule of the games.107.12.31

My performance in the interviews was
bad. I didn’t
follow the original order of the questions. I didn’t even
finish
them. Given that it was the first time I acted like a
reporter, I
understand that hassles were inevitable. After all, I was
there
to learn. If such occasion comes up again, I certainly would
do
better. I found that the Junyi platform is tailored for
children. It is also a good theme for our research
project.
Since the beginning, I’ve found that this kind of researches is
interesting. If possible, I want to take part in other
projects.107.10.31

We took part in a charity
sale in the covered playground. We sold
Junyi medallions and donated the resulting money to Junyi that can
spend it on content enrichment. This is our first donation to
Junyi.
It represents our support to Junyi. We wish that more
children would
benefit from it.107.11.30
I was nervous and my heart was pounding
when I was about to get on the stage to preach the Grade 3 pupil
features of the Junyi platform. Fortunately, my voice didn’t
shiver.
When I wasn’t speaking on the stage during the quiz, I took initiative
to hand out prizes and direct pupils’ attention. I supposed
we worked
as a team. I was handling questionnaires during the
Challenger Event.
I wasn’t proactive enough in getting pupils to fill out the
questionnaire. Eventually, there were only 3
responses. I should
really learn more about customer care.107.12.31

I’ve learned during the research project quite a
lot
which are certainly beyond the scope of coursework, e.g. interview
scripts, audio to text conversion, photography, itinerary, typing
etc. Doing interview on the scene is something normally done
by
grown-ups. I’ve been given a head start and I possibly can do
it
fast and better than others in the future.During the interviews, the
Junyi crew told us about helping more children which is the goal of
Junyi Academy.107.10.31
|
I was impressed by Ms Fang-Ting Chang, my 2nd
interviewee, who
expressed that she doesn’t want to be benefactor of children.
She just
wants to be there for children when they need solutions. I
think she
is great.107.11.30
I am
happy that the research project is finally
coming to an end. We have to spend lunch breaks and morning
sessions
on the research project instead of homework like we used to.
It was
hard, but I believe it will be fruitful. We may get into the
final
round as long as we finish it on time.107.12.31

When I heard of this research project, I was
surprised. This is my first research project. I was
nervous
and expectant. To enable in-depth understanding of Junyi, we
proceeded to do interviews, experience the platform ourselves and dig
up from the internet relevant information.107.10.31
|
The most remarkable activity is the
charity sale where we sold
Junyi medallions. Our teacher trusted and empowered us to
produce the
medallions ourselves. We messed up at the beginning but we
managed to
get the production on track. In the form of a factory
production line,
we produced the medallions with a relatively high defect
rate. We ran
out of materials eventually.107.11.30
For the 3rd time, we’ve
reached this checkpoint where we log our experience and personal
findings during the previous stages of the research project.
We are
already skilled writers. The final examination is getting
close, but
we still have to manage the research project under study
stress. I
want to thank our teacher who guided, trusted and empowered
us. Even
though it is our first research project, he maintains rigid standards
for academic research. He didn’t get too nervous to
constantly keep an
eye on everyone, but cut us some slack from time to time.107.12.31

Our teacher has reminded us of teamwork since the
beginning of the interview preparation. I have first-hand
experience about it. If one of us was to give up on the
objective, it would not be attained. There are still quite a lot of
outstanding tasks. I wish that we worked up a tightly bound
team
with this research project. We can spend time on other things
if
we finish this research project together.107.10.31
|
I found that advance planning is
important for research in
addition to teamwork. To set the project schedule well, our
teacher
helped us in setting out a project plan which the team adhered
to. We
didn’t forget things and the teacher didn’t have to spend time tracking
our progress. 107.11.30
During this time, we’ve worked swiftly and
precisely to bring the search project to the current stage.
If we
finish 90% of the research project by the end of 2018, we can spare the
time for preparing the games in the Dreamers Park. There
is a
shooting game in which one has to shoot a moving target which denotes
shooter’s answer to current question. The real answer to the
question
is tied to the head of a foxycat which moves slowly.107.12.31

We have been doing information
collection,
interviews, audio records conversion since September.
Interview
is not simple a task. We did quite a few rehearsals and
wished to
get through all the interviews as soon as possible. We
thought
the workload would be lighter after the interviews, but the tedious job
of audio to text conversion has started right after the
interviews. If there's one thing I learned, it's that don’t
just
look at the surface, something may turn out substantially different.

We did another round of interviews
since 3rd November. The
interviews were followed by audio records conversion. The 6th
research
log is still outstanding. I started to think that we
shouldn’t have
joined this competition. Firstly, I have no idea when we
would finish
it. Secondly, we have little certainty in winning the
competition.
However, it certainly would be great if we win this. Let’s
keep it
up. I am curious about the final product. We may
have taken long ways
around, but we will get there soon.107.11.30
We’ve finished the
items on the project plan accordingly. I couldn’t believe
that we
managed to finish all those units in just 3 weeks. We’ve even
finished
the Challenger Event. The outstanding job is the composition
of
games. If we had chosen a wrong theme, we would not have had
the fun.
I am glad we’ve picked the right one.107.12.31
