After graduation, Dr. Sun worked as a physician in Ching Hu Hospital in Macao. He afterward established a Western pharmacy there in December, practicing medicine from then on. After training for five years, Dr. Sun graduated from Hong Kong College of Medicine in July 1892. Although they have not been qualified or recognized by the government, a group of independent examiners still believed that they were able to practice in drugs, surgery and midwifery.

In the early years of Hong Kong College of Medicine, graduates could only practice medicine in Hong Kong as a Chinese, for it still belonged a more pioneering medical school. When Sun was graduated, Northern Minister Li Hung Chang intended to recruit Dr. Sun to the Northern College of Medicine, the medical school he planed to establish.
