Dr.TF Teng

Doctors are human beings, not God. It is inevitable that they make mistakes at times. However, doctors don’t always realize that they’ve done something wrong. Therefore, doctors should be equipped with the ability to reflect upon themselves, so that they could recognize the blind spots, be able to fix that immediately, and smartly avoid making the same mistake next time.

Ancient mythology said that Shen-Nong, the first doctor in Chinese history, had tried all kinds of herbs prior to using them to cure his people. What he did seemed to be a noble action, but Dr. Deng said that he would not do the same if he were Shen-Nong. Most Chinese people thought traditional medicine as mild, unharmful, compared to the medicine of Western countries. In fact, using drugs are bound to suffer side effects. Dr. Deng, as a powerhouse of toxicology in Taiwan, states that people should not test any type of drug unprepared, but should examine the subject with scientific methods.

Dr. Deng was born in a doctor’s family. Both his father and his elder brother are all doctors. Although his brother, thinking that Taiwan was already so full of doctors, didn’t support him then, he continued his journey to a great physician. Now, he is known as the Father of the toxicology in Taiwan, and his child is also a doctor in America. Dr. Deng was a student of Ferid Murad, who won Nobel Prize in 1998.

So what is toxicology? Handling anything related to toxic is what toxicology mainly discusses.

Almost every place around the globe uses English to write case history, except for China, whose doctors use Chinese to do that, which resulted in the marginalization of Chinese medicine to the world’s. This is the main reason that there’re still so many unclear facts about traditional medicine.

Technically, traditional medicine is not science. It’s philosophy. It has its own theory for how human body works, which is unexpectedly accurate, but has never been examined with modern science. “Shen-Nong must be a man of bravery to do that, but I’ll pass. Thank you.” said Dr. Deng.
