Song Title: Essay of Encouraging Studying

Song selected by:Vanilla

Original poem:(Chinese-English reference)

To be better-off you need not invest in fertile lands,

For books will promise a bumper harvest.

To own a home you need not collect huge logs.

For books will build a luxurious mansion at your nearest.

To find a wife you need not seek a professional matchmaker,

For books will pair you with the fairest maiden.

To travel you need not anticipate being a lonely walker,

For books will arrange a fancy parade of entourages and carriages like a moving forest.

If one wishes to realize these life goals,

He'd better pore over Confucian books with great interest.

About the poem:

This poem helps us understand to live a wealthy life, we don’t need to own fertile farmland; to live comfortably, we don’t need to buy a mansion; to get married, we don’t need to find a good matchmaker. To have a good career and attain all abovementioned wants, all you need to do is hit the books.

‘Essay of Encouraging Studying’ afterthoughts:

This poem is to remind us to study hard since there is no limit to attaining knowledge. To be more knowledgeable, the only way is to study. HanGuang transformed this poem into a lively song, and it made me feel that studying may not be easy, but there is a certain degree of fun to it. Hsing-Lei was in charge of lead in the first half, and sounds of ‘du, du, du’ were used as chord. When the song came to a stop, I thought it was over, but then Ching-Yuan started rapping, which I thought was quite interesting. Young people nowadays prefer rock and roll and pop music, so I think that’s why HanGuang is trying to fuse poetry into a cappella!
