Many Taiwanese enjoy drinking tea, and Taiwanese tea is very famous in the world. However, on September 25, 2004, the Consumers Foundation released an inspection report of tea sold by Hsin Tung Yang that contained pesticide. Studies show that it could cause liver disease or even liver cancer, so Hsin Tung Yang was fined, and the tea was off the shelf immediately.
Also, in January 2015, the Taipei City Health Bureau found that Hsin Tung Yang’s spicy dried tofu had contained dimethyl yellow. The supplier of Hsin Tung Yang had purchased the raw material from a firm with poor reputation. However, the supplier had kept the truth from Hsin Tung Yang; as a result, Hsin Tung Yang was a victim of this incident. We learned a very important lesson from these stories – do not try to earn profit and produce goods that have harmful artificial additives. Also, we need to pay attention to the quality control of each supplier and process of manufacturing.
Hsin Tung Yang does not produce products with harmful artificial additives, but they were affected by the source of their suppliers. The popularity and reputation of Hsin Tung Yang may not be affected by these incidents, but it is a great lesson to show them that they should pay more attention and be more cautious with these matters.
