Changhua County Assistive Devices Resources Center was founded in August 2003, the reason to found this center was that the grandmother(Ms. Joyce Mcmillan) of JOY Nursery School keeps upholding the spirit of sympathizing with the underprivileged people, in order to concern about the people with disabilities and to reduce the burden of long-term carers, this center was established by cooperating with the government to promote assistive resources integration services. And now, this center offers many professional assistive aids for the people who need assistive devices in Changua.

Visit Cih-Sheng Assistive Devices Resource CenterWan-Jhu、Wen-Yun and Ying-Yu had an interview and recorded about the assistive device in Cih-Sheng at nine this morning. The social worker introduced lots assistive devices of different functions enthusiastically. Cih-Sheng has Archangel Rehabilitation tricycle, practical tractor, foam roller and the like. After the careful description and demonstration from the social worker, we understood more about the assistive devices. The elevator in here is different from the general elevators. The elevator in here has lower buttons and handrail for the people with wheelchairs to use easily. The elevator also had changed the round handrail into elongated shape for a better use.
Walking through the hallway in Cih-Sheng, we found a lot of great works. After our asking, we found out that all of these works were made by the children in here. We saw there were some daily class schedules and some daily routines on the wall, these graphs helped the children to know what they should do. If they finish the works, the teachers will check on their individual schedules. If someone does very well, he can get some points on the point-collecting card. The more points they get, they can buy what they want during the outdoor activities.
On the bulletin board, there were some wishing trees which were plastered with the children's wishes. Their wishes were simple and not greedy, some want to have a chance to eat their favorite food, some want to have social workers to accompany with them every day, and some hopes to take a ride to teacher's house and play there. They are really a group of adorable angels.

When we were there, we saw there were some hair dressers giving the children a haircut in the hall; they were all very enthusiastic and gave the haircut for free. The children who were having a haircut were all with a smiling face. In fact, there are many kinds of assistive equipments in our daily lives, such as arcade which can help us hiding from the rain; however, some of the people with narrow minds put lots of stuffs in the arcade and make it rugged and bumpy.
That may let elderly, children and handicapped people feel inconvenient to use, so it will reduce the visually impaired students’ will to go out and let them turn into stay at home and feel bored all day. Their social and interpersonal relations will become deteriorate. To sum up, the barrier-free environment will make them live in a more easy way, so the assistive devices are very important.
An Interview with the Assistive Devices Repairing Group1 Who is the mainly people to take the major service?
Ans: Changhua County residents who possess Disabled Manual. Basically, they will be no charge for a quota, our mainly materials are secondhand. If you need new parts, they must be charged.
2. What are the mainly services?Ans: Repair and rent out the assistive devices. If you need a temporarily use, you can go to the repair center to rent, it will charge some fees. If you rent for yourself, it will take you some rental fees and guarantee. If you need to send the device to your home, we will charge some freightage. Assistive devices repairing center doesn’t sell any assistive devices.
We have been undertaken the aids from Changhua County Assistive Devices Resource Center, so we have no formal invoice can be given to the public. If there are some assistive devices which are not used anymore, we will take out the usable parts to use or sell them to earn more money to increase the central funding.
3. Serving areaAns: There are two people in a pair to patrol at each repairing spot, and the spots are all set up. If other counties need our help, they have to bring the assistive tools to the assistive device center by themselves. Usually, every county has its own assistive device center, so we don’t need to cross the county. And in the assistive center, it has its own warehouse to put the secondhand parts.
4. How often do you repair and maintain the assistive devices inCih-Sheng?
Ans: Once a month, every second Tuesday afternoon of each month.

Ans: Wheelchairs, crutches, brackets, air beds, hospital beds and the like. As long as the things are considered as assistive devices, we repair. But the electronic equipments are not in our services, such as oxygen making machines or electronic panels. We will have the manufacturer to repair.
6. Are there any other services, besides maintenance andinspection of assistive devices?
Ans: We have site-assessment service which means if the elderly do not possess Disabled Manual, we will help him raise a suitable wheelchair. That’s what we called, “Secondhand assistive devices matchmaking.” Also, if there is someone who is with Disabled Manual needs a wheelchair, and he doesn’t mind whether it is new or not. He can apply to the city office for one, and the assistive device will be shipped directly to his home without any charge.
ICF will send their professional therapists to ask what people need first and then provide the assistance. There are about 20 therapists in each township, and we will send the therapists who are nearby to serve because it will be more convenient to do so. We give the service which is based on the evaluation table.
7. How do you feel when you repair or inspect the assistivedevices?
Ans: It’s very good to do the public services, and we are so lucky to undertake this Assistive device Resource Center. We are very glad to provide the services in Changhua County.
