From our collection of Apex, Pang-Soong Lin’s media cover, we found that after receiving Design Achievement Award from International Council of Graphic Design Association (ICOGRADA) in 2002, he also was awarded with Education Award in 2011 at the International Design Alliance (IDA) to honor his years of contribution in the design education. He was also the first Chinese recipients to receive this award.

　　Besides artistic creation, Professor Lin has long been devoted to promoting the art design education in Taiwan. In 2005, when he took upon the position of chairman and graduate institute director of Department of Fine Arts, he was the first chairman with the background of design in National Taiwan Normal University since the inauguration of the university 58 years ago. In the same year, National Taiwan Normal University Department of Fine Arts opened its door to the public to take part in lecture and seminar of The 2th Art Creation Design Graduation Exhibition. Professor Lin believed deeply that designing is the next wave of economic transition competitiveness for Taiwan. Therefore, he established National Taiwan Normal University Department of Visual Design. He quoted Zeng Gong, from Song Dynasty, in Out laws of The Marsh contents preface, literally Strategies of the Warring States, “design an answer you set to give others for your purpose.” In The Art of War Section I Laying Plans, Sun Tzu also stated the importance of design.

　　Professor Lin emphasized that it is important to seek for rightness first, then for better. Taiwan lacks art education, therefore, there would often be blind spot in design. The purpose of design education is to develop the sense of professional art education. With the ability to appreciate art would there be the population of art consumers.

　　The educational focus of National Taiwan Normal University Department of Visual Design is internationalization and industry-academy cooperation. In addition to encouraging students to take part in international competitions, the university also uses the abundant resources of Taipei City to invite at least twenty speakers from diverse industrial fields in a semester. The students could also participate in lectures outside the school. Professor Lin believed that as a learner of design, it is vital to actively interact with other instead of just sitting in the classroom. In doing so, one could broaden the horizons and comprehend the trends of the era and the vibes of the society.

　　Professor Lin also funded the biggest Culture and Creative Industries Center among all universities in Taiwan. The initiative that the university took to establish Culture and Creative Industries Center amazed many. The reason that Professor Lin created the new word “artivity” (art and creativity) instead of simply using creativity is to emphasize the core value that the National Taiwan Normal University hold in the fields of literature, music, art, and design. Hoping to promote the art of calligraphy, poetry, craft and various “artivity ” by Culture and Creative Industries Center. The ideal vision in the heart of Professor Lin is as Confucius put it ("Let the will be set on the path of duty. Let every attainment in what is good be firmly grasped. Let perfect virtue be accorded with. Let relaxation and enjoyment be found in the polite arts.")

　　Professor Lin considered from the concept of territory, Taiwan is too small. If we could not compare the size with other countries, then we need to adopt different strategies to create diverse concepts. In other words, if we could not compete the size of area against other countries then why not use our soft power to attract talents and become the world magnet. He believed that National Taiwan Normal University already has the art talents, with well cultivation, not only could they level the visibility of the university but also inject new blood into the culture and creative industries of Taiwan. He hopes that the culture and creative industries of Taiwan would take Nation Taiwan Normal University as the center and gradually turn outward to let Taiwan the heart of the culture and creative industries of overseas Chinese or the magnet of world art design.
