From the interview we learned that Professor Apex Pang-Soong Lin broke the estrangement between university and design sector during his tenure as the chairman of Department of Fine Arts in 2005. Furthermore, he received Taiwan Literature and Art Award by Ministry for Education in 2007, envisioning the art circles the “aesthetic economy” that is going to be flourishing or even improving our global competitiveness in the near future. Lin has been insisting on taking the road not taken for the past thirty years, and those years of solitude are eventually worthwhile. “I’m having this award on behalf of Taiwan design sector” he said this with a humble voice on the day of award ceremony. The following is a brief overview of Lin’s biographical notes:

 1、History:

  • "Education Award / Contribution in Design Education Award," IDA Taipei World Design Congress, 2011

 3、Recent Exhibitions:

  • 【Inheritance and Innovation: The 1st Taiwan Academy of Arts Fellow Exhibition】(Chung Shan National Gallery, 2010):

With “inheritance and innovation” the focus of the program, the joint exhibition displayed works by several fellow members of Taiwan Academy of Arts.

  • 【My Homeland / Art and Design Exhibition by Apex Pang-Soong Lin】
    (Hsinchu Art Center, 2011):

During 2001-2003, Lin went through ups and downs after his parents passed away and contemplated over the life-changing experience of which he was profoundly moved and inspired. It was said that items displayed in “My Homeland” are motivated by Lin’s mixed feelings after fortuitously found the devil’s ivy planted by his father.

  • 【Typhoon Blowing / Art and Design Exhibition by Apex Pang-Soong Lin】
    (Chienkuo Technology University, 2011):

When traveling by air, clouds in the sky always made Lin think of Taiwan. Therefore, the work “The Drifting Taiwan” was made in 1993. With his heart filled with excitements after seeing images of Taiwan islands on various occasions, few more paintings were created. He said when drawing it was like transcribing the scripture which fosters a peaceful way of contemplation, helping him transform the homeland in spiritual sense into real art works.

  • 【Taiwan Centennial Design Exhibition】(National Museum of History, 2011):

All posters on display were works from 1912 to 2011 and had been given to National Museum of History after the exhibition ended. Lin who served as the curator of the exhibit once said “I think the whole meaning of this activity to Taiwan is that it’s the first art design exhibition ever held in national gallery. It is supposed to be a great encouragement to Taiwan’s design community; the most important thing is that the design energy in Taiwan could be promoted to the world through such kind of activities. From the Japanese colonial period to ROC regime period, the exhibit reveals different developmental stages of poster designing in Taiwan.”

  • 【Seeing, Home / Letters sending to Taiwan by Apex Pang-Soong Lin】
    (Tunghai University Art Center, 2011):

Lin has been sending Taiwan around 400 postcards from around the world since 2007. The postmarks on the stamps are there as if they had witnessed their “time” and “places.” The rationale for sending “家書Letters” to Taiwan is to arouse people to see and cherish our homeland. As Lin has said, it would be really touching if everyone starts doing it.

  • 【Beijing International Design Week "Paper: From Where the Paper Stand"】
    (Beijing Gehua Building, 2012)

Sparing no efforts in Cultural Creative Industry in both Taiwan and China, this exhibition is one of the several activities Lin held in year 2012.

  • 【Seeing, Home / Letters sending to Taiwan by Apex Pang-Soong Lin】
(The School of Oriental Design, Oriental Art Center, 2012) :

Through their sketch manuscripts, the displayed items illustrate the Taiwan impression while showing the love toward the land from its people. The commercial-oriented design has shifted to a more spiritual and intellectual level of artistic expression.
