▪Summary

This topic is to gain an in-depth understanding of the historical sites, history and culture of Beipu Old Street through activities such as reading materials, watching videos, field investigations, expert interviews and guided tours. Through a one-day visit and guided tour, we visited the historical sites and understood the process of the ancestors' reclamation and the local culture and its industry. During the interviews with the locals, we also learned that through a group of people who share the same philosophy of protecting cultural assets, preservation of the culture and the old settlements can be successfully implemented. The Old Settlement Museum Historic Site Joint Venture Team is the first museum group in Taiwan that is autonomously operated by private owners of historic sites. Guided tours provide a chance for tourists to visit historic sites, experience Hakka culture, and what’s more, to combine cultural assets with local industries and tourism. Beipu Old Street, an old settlement full of reclamation history and culture, can shine again through the joint management of historical sites, so that this old street full of historical relics has a different vitality and is moving towards the goal of sustainable development and management.

▪Community

Beipu is located in a small town in Hsinchu County, Taiwan. It was the base of Hakka immigrants in the Qing Dynasty. At that time, under the leadership of Jiang Xiuluan, the settlers entered the Beipu Basin and built the Jin Guangfu Mansion as the base for reclamation. Citian Temple It was the center of faith at that time, and it gradually developed into a lively neighborhood, which is today's Beipu Old Street. Beipu Old Street was once the busiest commercial center in Beipu in the Qing Dynasty. From the short 200-meter old street, there are seven historic sites including Jin Guangfu Mansion, Jiang Axin Ancient House, and Citian Temple, which shares the highest concentration of historical sites in Taiwan, and illustrates the prosperity of its past. Owners and managers of these historic sites who share the same philosophy do not want to lose the rich historic sites and cultural resources under the time passing, so they unite to form the "Beipu Old Settlement Museum Historic Site Joint Operation Team" with the concept of protecting cultural assets , to promote the joint management of historic sites. Now, under the guidance of professional tour guides, people can visit the historic buildings in the old settlements in person and experience the beauty of local history, culture and architectural art. This joint venture project has successfully transformed the old Beipu district into a Hakka culture and innovation settlement.

▪Impact

Through this webpage design and field visit, students can have a sense of identity with the cultural environment, Hakka culture and various historic buildings on Beipu Old Street, and then share this experience and ideas with relatives and friends around them, so that more people may be willing to walk into the Beipu Old Street Settlements, participate in a professional guided tour of the Old Street Museum, and take a one-day experience itinerary will provide more practical economic support for the revitalization of the historic buildings in the Beipu Old Street Settlement. In addition, through the power of the Internet, all the people who cherish the local culture of Beipu will be connected together. It’s believed that in the future, better benefits will be generated, and the spirit of Hakka's hard work will be spread everywhere, bringing sustainability to the preservation of cultural relics, and the possibility of operation and development.

▪Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises

Through the guided tour of the monuments, it is found that the maintenance of the monuments can gather all the people who cherish the history of the Hakka people who reclaimed the to cooperate. In addition to the maintenance of the monuments, it is also combined with the development of tourism in its local industry. Through various activities, the old settlement turned a new leaf of itself. Once the historic monuments were nicely and successfully revitalized, the old settlement has gotten even more charming than it used to be.
