▪History

In the seventeenth century, the Chinese people began to enter Taiwan to initiate reclamation. From the 15th to the 17th year of Qing Daoguang, (1835-1837 AD), the Chinese people headed to the inland hills and mountains. Undergoing many fierce battles with the indigenous people in the mountains, the casualties of pioneers were severe. At that time, in order to protect the pioneers and comfort people's hearts, Beipu Citian Temple with Hakka architectural features was created, which was the combination of Fujian and Guangdong religion- Guanyin Bodhisattva and Mazu. Beipu Citian Temple has always been the center of belief of Beipu residents, and it was established under this historical background. The earthquake on September 21, 1985 put great damage on Beipu Citian Temple, and the bricks and remaining interior decorations damaged during the earthquake were approved as a third-class historic site in 1985.

▪Building style

The carvings of Beipu Citian Temple are smooth and charming, which is the only one seen in temples in Taiwan. Its decorative art reflects the historical background at that time, whether it is Kong Ming's conquest of the Southern Man, seven captures of Meng Huo..., or the decorative works of "Feng Shen Yan Yi" with Jiang Ziya (the distant ancestor of the Jiang family) as the soul, They all reflect the background at that time, from which we can know that Beipu Citian Temple is Jin Guangfu's spiritual sustenance, and Jin Guangfu's Kenmin's feelings towards Kenshou and Li Tongzhi. After the war, there were several repairs, among which it was fully rebuilt in the 60th year of the Republic of China (1971 AD) and became what it is today.

▪Role

Citian Temple, located in the core of Beipu City at the end of the street, is the center of Beipu settlement and the first temple built in the area. Due to its outstanding location, the temple space not only has religious functions, but also handles public affairs, commerce, leisure and entertainment. Citian Temple is also closely related to Jin Guangfu's Li Siye and Jiang Xiuluan. It is not only the most important temple in the Beipu area, but also an important witness to the history of reclamation in the Hsinchu Mountains after the Daoguang period in the Qing Dynasty; it is also an important witness to the cooperation between Fujian and Guangdong to eliminate ethnic confrontation.
