Guandu Nature Park |
Guandu Nature Park is located in the Guandu
Embankment on the east bank of the intersection of Tamsui River and
Keelung River. It is a multi-purpose nature park with the purpose of
conservation, education and research (Wikipedia). The park was
established to protect internationally important wild bird habitats to
protect birds appropriately. The park plan retains the original and
natural wetlands as the goal. After environmental assessment and
planning, it is divided into four areas: outdoor observation area, core
conservation area, main facility area and sustainable management area.
It can be called "Water Wet Paradise of Water Birds". Migratory birds
migrate according to the seasons. Hundreds of birds can be seen in
Guandu Nature Park, which is the best spot for bird watching in Guandu. | | | Filmed by Bird Conservator
We first went to the riverside to watch the water
ducks. During the low tide from spring to autumn, we can observe crab
caves and foraging behaviors on the crab-friendly platform. We see the
common greenshank, and light-vented bulbul on the shore. The park is
mainly divided into the following facility areas: riparian ecological
area, coastal forest area, Pitang ecological area, northern
low-altitude forest area and other regional areas, where local
characteristic plants are planted. We also went to the bird watching
hut, moon pool small classroom, nature center to find bird traces. The
bird watching hut can be illuminated through the light outside the
window during the day, but there is no lighting inside the house. We
can sit in front of the window and look at the wetland outside the
window to watch the birds. Especially when we look out of the house, we
can see Oriental turtle doves staying on the tree behind the wetland.
This is the first time we have seen so many Oriental turtle doves. The
Little grebes swam around the Common coot in the pool, diving from time
to time, sank, floated up and sank repeatedly. There were African
sacred ibis, heron, Gallinula chloropus in the distant place. It was
very hard to take pictures, everyone called the Common coot a sliced
cold chicken by mistake and made us laugh! | | | Filmed by Bird Conservator

Today, we found about 34 species including spot-billed
ducks, green-winged teals, African sacred ibis, herons, common moorhen,
common greenshank, Oriental turtle dove, little grebe, kingfishers,
treepies, etc. This is our last bird watching on Wednesday, and we also
registered the bird species directly to e-bird.
