Volunteer task
The Wild Bird Society of Taipei has spared no effort in educational promotion, and especially arranged many bird watching activities. The routine activities have been ongoing from 1973 to the present. Regular bird watching activities are held every weekend. The volunteers led participants to attend bird watching in the suburbs, and provide commentary services for everyone. The resident commentary department branch will set up fixed-point commentary service stations in Guandu Nature Park, Huajiang Wild Duck Nature Park, and Daan Forest Park, so that people entering the park can watch birds through a telescope, and explain the fun of bird watching.
Children and teens’ natural ecological experience camps are also launched in the winter and summer vacations. For teachers and students in the school, there are special lectures, outdoor teaching activities are held at Guandu, Huajiang Bridge or the suburbs of Greater Taipei area. For large-scale activities, during the migratory bird migration season in every spring and autumn, the "Kuandu Water Bird Season" bird-watching event was held, which was later expanded to be the International Bird-watching Expo.
From the routine activities of the Wild Bird Society of Taipei to the Bird Watching Expo, we can find that there is a huge demand for volunteers. Almost all volunteers are dispatched for the Bird Watching Expo, so education and training are very important.
In order to improve the quality and enthusiasm of service volunteers, the Wild Bird Society of Taipei regularly recruits, selects volunteers every year, and commentary volunteers can enter the scene slowly after more than six months of training courses.

Secretary General Shih-hong Chen told us that in volunteer training, the first stage is basic volunteer training, in which the volunteer first know the Wild Bird Society of Taipei, and participate in the core curriculum. This core curriculum and basic curriculum take about two months, and includes a total of 32 Class training courses. Next is more in-depth professional training, for example, tour guides, at least half a year is spent on professional training, during which the volunteers learn how to watch birds, use telescopes, identify bird species, and teach people to watch birds in the wild. After at least 8 months of training time, coupled with internship, after passing evaluation, it is confirmed that the volunteer has the ability to lead the team, and the volunteer service will start in the next year. Therefore, the Wild Bird Society of Taipei volunteer tour training process is long and professional.
