Bird watching area in Taipei City
      There are many places to watch birds in Taipei area, and different bird watching fun and novelty will be experienced to watch birds in the same place at different times. Bird watching areas in New Taipei City are Tianliaoyang (Gongliao District), Zhitan Elementary School (Xidian), Tanchiang Ranch, Luzhou Embankment, Wulai Township, Wugu Guanyin Mt., Yeliu (Wanli Township), Sikanshui (Xidian), Fengdanbailu (Zhuwei), Jinshan Township, Shenkeng and Shiding Townships. Bird watching areas in Taipei City include Neikou Village, Nangang Park, Beitou-Guizikeng Drainage Canal in Neihu, Daan Forest Park, Tianmu Trail, Shilin Chishan Rock, Guandu Nature Park, Huajiang Wild Duck Nature Park, and hiking trails in various places, etc. We will briefly introduce several bird watching areas of convenient traffic in Taipei City, so that readers can easily plan their simple bird watching trip.
1.Taipei Botanical Garden
      Taipei Botanical Garden, which has plants from all over the world, is located in Wanhua Dist in the southwestern part of Taipei City. There are more than 1500 species of plants. Most of the birds in the garden are sparrows, light-vented bulbuls, warbling white-eyes, and spotted-necked turtledoves. Besides, Taiwan barbets, tree pies and black drongoes have inhabited here for many years. Black-crowned herons standing still or pecking at earthworms are always found in the humid and dark places under the forest, or chicks are observed in the nest waiting for their parents to return to feed.
2.Chih Shan Yen Cultural and Historical Park
      Chih Shan Yen Cultural and Historical Park is a good place to observe the nature and watch birds. There is also Shuangxi Riverside Park, Zhishan Ecological Garden, which are nearby bird watching places. Chih Shan Yen is dominated by dense tree arboreal birds, the most characteristic are Taiwan barbet and black-naped monarch. In addition, we can also see treepie, white-eared sibiab, Taiwan barbet, grey-cheeked fulvetta, rufous-capped babbler and dusky fulvetta.
3.National Taiwan University
      There about 30 families and 104 bird species in National Taiwan University main campus. The more special species include treepie, Taiwan barbet, collared scops owl, Common moorhen, and Magpie robin. The trees on the campus are tall and dense, thus collared scops owl are mostly around the administrative buildings. Besides, the ecological pond attracts waterfowl to inhabit, including white-breasted waterhen.
4.Tianmu Trail
      Tianmu Trail is located on the outer edge of the south side of Yangmingshan National Park. There are many ways to follow the bird watching route according to the season. For example, start from Chinese Culture University to Dehsing East Road, then go round the Tianmu Trail. Common bird species include Taiwan barbet, grey-cheeked fulvetta, and rufous-capped babbler. Crested serpent eagle and crested goshawk can be seen in the open field.
5.Beitou-Guizikeng River
       Beitou-Guizikeng River originates from Datun Mt., enters Guandu Plain due to irrigation needs, there are many ditches running through the plain. It is rich in insects, shellfish and frogs, and also attracts birds to forage. Large row environment including water town, hydroponic fields, barren grasslands, bamboo forests, thickets are all observation spots. Depending on the seasons, bird species include winter birds, yellow magpie, grey magpie, myna, dove, heron, etc.

6.Nangang Park
      Nangang Park is a green area of the Metropolitan Park. The hills in the flood-control pond are densely planted and provide habitat to attract little egret, Yellow bittern, pond heron and other waterbirds to feed. There are mynas on park walks, columbidae and urban birds perching in surrounding communities and roads.
       The mountain trails around Taipei City such as Hushan Natural Trail, Erziping Trail, Zhuhai Hiking Trail, and Eweishan Trail are all bird watching spots. Those who are interested can refer to related routes and plans.
