Tour guide
Start off from Shilin MRT station, take Xinyi-Tamsui Line to Beitou MRT Station and then change to Xinbeitou Branch line and get off at Xinbeitou Station. An old wooden station is visible immediately to your right when you exit the MRT station. It is the restored Xinbeitou Station, the terminal station of the old Tamsui railway branch line during the Japanese Colonial Period. Now it serves as a tourist information center that includes a gallery exhibiting the history of the railway station. Outside the station are the platform, tracks and a train carriage for visitors to experience the old time of taking a train.
Across from Xinbeitou Station is Beitou Park built in the Japanese Colonial Period. There are a new water dance fountain, an old-style western water fountain, century-old arch bridges and gazebos for you to take a walk there and enjoy the scenery. Or you can walk into the well-known green building, Taipei Public Library Beitou Branch, to appreciate its unique architectural design.

Near the Beitou Library is Beitou Hot Spring Museum. It used to be the Beitou Public Bathhouse in the Japanese Colonial Period, and it becomes a hot spring museum after renovation. It is a Victorian-style building with red bricks and wooden weatherboards. The tatami lounge on the second floor is a great place for you to sit around and enjoy the view of the Beitou Park. The Geothermal Valley is only a short walk from the Beitou Hot Spring Museum. It is the source of the green sulfur spring, the main spring water quality in Beitou. The sulfur fumes veiled around the green hot spring send a mysterious and romantic atmosphere around the valley.
In the evening, you can take the MRT to Jiantan Station, a dragon boat station which has been awarded as one of the top ten coolest stations in the world. Within 5-minute walk, you can enjoy all kinds of delicious foods in Shilin Night Market. The fried chicken fillet, stinky tofu, stewed pork ribs, etc. are so tasty that there are always people waiting in line to taste. The National monument, the Cixian Temple, also called Shilin Mazu Temple, is in the small streets in the night market. You can pray for your luck and appreciate the ancient dragon pillars, stone lions and Cochin ceramics there.

◎ Little reminder
1. Beitou Public Library and Beitou Hot Spring Museum may be closed on certain days. You can check the websites before visiting.
2. The food at Shilin Night Market is very delicious, but you are not allowed to drink or eat on the MRT.
