Dance Competition
Every
summer, information of ¡§Metro Street Dance Competition¡¨ are
spotted on the train carriages or at the stations. In
addition to offering high reward to attract dance lovers,
the organizers also invite renowned artists as spokespersons
or performers in the festival. We surely do not want to miss
such an exciting event. We searched for the news and reports
about the Metro Street Dance Festival on the Internet and
then we discussed the people and the questions we were going
to interview during visiting. We also contacted the staff
from Taipei Metro, hoping they could share some of their
experience with us. The following is our interview on-site.

Mr. Huang, the Director of marketing in
Planning Office from Taipei Metro
Q1¡GThe Metro Street Dance Competition is entering its
15th year. It is not easy for an event to last for 15 years.
Why does Taipei Metro continue to hold the street dance
competition?
A1¡GBecause in the 1990s, many young people danced
behind the Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation. We hope the
corporation can build a young and dynamic image to the
society. So, we encourage the young people to develop a
healthy leisure activity and we are willing to provide a
stage for the young people who love dancing to show
themselves.
Q2¡GWhy did you choose the Sunshine Hall of Da¡¦an
Forest Park Station to hold the Street Dance Festival?
A2¡GThe festival was first held at the square outside
of Jiannan Road Station and Luzhou Station because the
outdoor space was large enough to accommodate many people,
but it was also very hot to stay outdoors in summer
vacation. Therefore, after the Sunshine Hall of Daan Forest
Park Station opened, we started to hold the competition
there for the landscape is modern and the indoor space is
more cozy for the competitors.

Q3¡GWhy did you invite Kimberly and Ben Wu as
spokespersons this year?
A3¡GWe invite artists to be the event spokespersons
every year. We have invited Jolin Tsai, A-mei, and S.H.E.
The invited spokespersons who have a strong interest in
dancing, for example, Ben Wu who joined the dance club at
school, have participated in Taipei Metro Dance competition
before. Both Kimberly and Ben love street dance and we hope
they can encourage the young people to love dancing.
Q4¡GWhat is the biggest challenge you encounter in
hosting Metro Street Dance Competition?
A4¡GWe are trying to link up the Metro Street Dance
Competition with the international trend. In addition to
supporting the local street dance industry, we encourage our
winner to go international. The champion will be rewarded
NT$ 200,000 as an initiative to participate in the
international competitions in the following year. The
rewards are for the teams from Taiwan only.

participated in the competition in the past. This time, we
have two teams from Philippines.
Q7¡GHow long does it take to prepare for the street
dance competition?
A7¡GWe try to make some changes every year, and the
preparation takes around ten months or one year.

Q8¡GHow many staff members are needed?
A8¡GThere are 3 people in charge of the event and
around 50 people will be on site when the competition
starts. Different people come to service in different
working processes.
Q9¡GHow much does the whole event cost?
A9¡GThe event is co-hosted by Taipei Rapid Transit
Corporation and Cathay United Bank. The total cash award of
NT$760,000 is provided by Taipei Metro. The subsides of
NT$400,000 for going abroad and the total cost of the event
are funded by Cathay United Bank.
Q10¡GWhy does Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation choose
to host the street dance competition with Cathay United
Bank?
A10¡GTaipei Rapid Transit Corporation and Cathay
United Bank already have financial cooperation. The ATMs in
the MRT stations all belong to Cathay United Bank and the
bank won one of the bids before. Cathay United Bank is also
a corporation that pursuits positivity and vitality so the
two corporations share the same value.
