Typhoon Nari caused severe disaster |
Review and improvement after typhoon Nari |
¡»A Valuable lesson from Typhoon Nari
Typhoon Nari struck Taiwan in 2001 and within three days,
the typhoon showered a year¡¦s worth of rainfall in Taiwan,
and 16 underground stations were flooded. It took three
months for Taipei Metro to resume full operations, and flood
prevention measures were implemented in existing and new
stations. After the flooding, an overall review of flood
prevention systems for Taipei MRT was carried out, and
enhancement measures were improved. Flooding heights are
recorded at Taipei Main Station and Ximen Station to remind
people of the lesson they learned from the flood.

Fire Prevention
There is fire-fighting equipment at the metro station lobby,
and there are fire extinguishers at the platforms. The train
carriage is equipped with fire extinguishers and smoke vent
opening devices. If emergent situations happen, passengers
can use the intercom to contact the driver and the driver
will contact the operations control center to initiate
contingency measures.
