In order to raise Taiwan tilapia whose flesh is fresh, tender, and no muddy taste, the water quality is very important. So, the fishermen have to pay attention to the change of water quality at any time. How do the fishermen know the quality of water? They use the detection reagents of
NH3 and
HNO2 to monitor. When they drop some detection reagent into the water sample, the color of water will change. And then, they will know the concentration of
NH3 and
HNO2 if they compare the shades of color of the water sample with the color table. The yellow color means
NH3 and the red color means
HNO2.
The breeding of Taiwan tilapia in Chia-Yi area is a type of brackish water aquaculture. The Taiwan tilapia here is blacker than the freshwater Wuguo fish. The flesh is more elastic and delicious. So, the water sources include the fresh water from the reservoir and also the shallow ground water. The proportion of both kinds of water quantity should be appropriate, and the salinity tester is necessary to measure the proportion.
