Year 1946, and it was also the second year after Japan was defeated. Many Taiwanese soldiers, who were recruited by the Japanese military to fight in South Pacific battlefields, were gathered together in the military camps of Singapore, and they were waiting for sending back to Taiwan. Among these Taiwanese soldiers, two young men sneaked into Japanese fish farms and caught several hundred fry. When they came back to the military camp, they raised these fry in an empty can. Only 13 fry survived after a long voyage from Singapore to Taiwan. And, these 13 fry were just the ancestors of Wuguo fish. Since these fry came from South Asia, they also got a popular name, the South Pacific crucian carp. |

Due to a heavy rain in the summer of 1947, several hundred thousand fry, which were raised in the fish farm of Mr. Guo Chi-zhang, were almost washed away. Since then, Wuguo fish has gradually inhabited the habitats in South Taiwan from shallow streams and ponds through to rivers, lakes, and estuaries.
