  Breeding in the Early Days

People in Taiwan did not accept Wuguo fish in the beginning of import period, and many people doubted the economic value of this fish. In 1951, the original Department of Agriculture and Forestry started to promote raising Wuguo fish in rice fields. This way could reduce diseases of paddy rice.
In the early days of Taiwan, the cultivation of Wuguo fish is a type of extensive operation, and later the type of comprehensive operation prevails in the 1960s. Although the crops and the animal droppings can be used as substitutes of the feeding stuffs and help to reach the target of cost down, the negative impression of using such feeding stuffs cannot be easily shaken off from the mind of customers.
About the topic of feeding stuffs, Uncle Chen Zhen-ming had further explanation for us. When the droppings of poultry and livestock, the organic fertilizers, are discharged into the fish farms, they become the feeding stuffs of planktons as well as aquatic plants and animals. Then, these planktons as well as aquatic plants and animals become the natural assistant feeding stuffs of Wuguo fish. The process is just like a small food chain, but most people do not understand the case.
