Just arriving at the upper floor, we saw clergyman Lei waited for us with a smile in front of his office. Clergyman Lei looked gentle and peaceful with a square face and big ears; most specially, he made people feel warm and want to be with him. |
When he was young, he lived in a navy dependents' village nearby the Chinshin Elementary school . His father was a navy and valued their education very much. Even though Chinshin Elementary school was considered as a private noble school, his father still sent him to study there with his little pay. |
¡§Whenever leaving school, you could see many cars to pick up the kids, but I walked home by myself. I had only one set of uniforms. There're full of patches on the sleeve and knees. When I was on stage for the speech contest, the classmates always starred at my pants. My father still insisted to let us study at the best school in the difficult environment,.¡¨ Clergyman Lei recalled. |
Clergyman Lei thinks the biggest impact of military dependents' village on him is a happy childhood. ¡§Everyday once leaving school, I threw away the schoolbag and played outside; the next day, I carried the same schoolbag to school without opening it at all.¡¨ Clergymanr Lei described so, ¡§Living in a military dependents' village is like living in a big family¡Xeveryone knew each other with close relationships and lots of interaction. You could even give keys to your neighbors!¡¨ |
Clergymanr Lei's father was a navy and couldn't return home for months. Therefore, his mother took care of everything with great pressure; sometimes she hided in her room and cried. His father went to church in Shiamen China and brought her together (the Dachih Quaker Church now). Every time she attended the church, she became happy, which left a deep impression in clergymanr Lei's mind. Now, she was taken by his sister Lei, Chian, as well as the current legislator, for the Sunday school. |

Clergymanr Lei thought church was a place full of kindness. Many people cared about him there, so he went to church often, but he still felt empty after going home. The father at the church told him, ¡§You just came here to see Jesus but never brought him home.¡¨ Clergymanr Lei then started to pray at home. There's one time he felt so peaceful that he no longer talked back to his mother since then. |
¡§After grown up, I wanted to do something to help people. Once I felt moved by God's calling and wished me do some spiritual works. Although my father disagreed with my decision to give up the opportunity to study abroad, I was sure this was the path prepared by God.¡¨
|
Clergymanr Lei thought it was the most important and correct decision of being a pastor in his life. |
Clergymanr Lei has been to China but not for returning to his hometown. He preached at the countryside of Shandong and Anhwei and trained the local preachers. |
¡§Freedom of religion has been allowed in China now, but the preaching is illegal subject to being arrested. Since I don't look like local people, I have to hide for preaching there; I even had to take bath in the river at dark nights.¡¨ Clergymanr Lei talked about the difficulty of preaching in China . |
Finally, we asked for clergymanr Lei's perspective of the problem of today's society. |
¡§Chapter 10 verse 12 of Proverbs, ¡¥Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers over all wrongs.'. All the disputes and oppositions in the society are from the hatred in your heart. Only love and forgiveness can solve all the problems.¡¨ Clergymanr Lei offered his opinions slowly. |
¡§Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers over all wrongs¡¨. A line is worth to think over and over by everyone. |
