Bird watching equipment |
After knowing the basic concepts of birds, what
should we pay attention to in terms of equipment for bird watching in
the field? Clothing and accessories: The
clothing for bird-watching activities should mainly be easy and
convenient. The clothes are mainly
long-sleeved tops and trousers that can fit into the wild colors.
Comfortable hats, which can shade and
protect the head. Multi-pocket vests with many pockets can carry
illustrated handbooks,
notebook, other things, etc. Suitable small backpacks, which can
hold other outdoor equipment such as
kettles. Telescopes: There
are two types of telescopes, namely binoculars and monocular. The
binoculars are of
lightweight, and the monocular require high tripods to
support bird watching. Because of the beating of
mountain birds, the binoculars with strong
mobility are required for unfixed positions. Water bird
observation distance is relatively long, so it is better to use
monocular with a large magnification. But there
is no certain standard, and it depends on the needs of bird
watching. When we visited the Wild Bird
Society of Taipei, they suggested
beginners to choose basic binoculars with a magnification of seven to
ten times. The price is about NT$ 3000-5000,
and then upgrade the telescope according to personal interests. | | | | Filmed by Bird Conservator | |

It is not suitable for children to choose a telescope
that is too expensive. For beginners, it is suitable to choose
telescopes within the budget. There are two ways to use the telescope as follows: Method 1 1.Use our naked eyes to select the relevant location where the bird is, or a specific protrusion near it such as a tree trunk. 2.Then use the telescope to slowly move to find the position where the eyes just watch. 3.After finding the target, adjust the focus again until the target is clear.
Method 2 1.Stare at the bird first, and keep our body still. 2.Move the binoculars to our eyes and adjust the focus after seeing the bird. | | | Filmed by Bird Conservator |
The illustrated handbook is our essential reference
book for bird watching. When we see birds in the wild, and we can't
tell the species immediately, then we can read the illustrated handbook
and description. For the illustrated handbook, we can refer to the
illustrated handbook published by the Wild Bird Society of Taipei. 100
common birds in Taiwan divides birds into mountain birds and water
birds. For those who are interested in bird watching, there is the
advanced version of Taiwan Wild Bird Hand-painted Book. The entry book
is mainly based on common bird photos and introductions. The picture is
mainly hand-painted, and details the bird species, distribution, and
habits. Most birders recommend bringing a notebook to
record the species and characteristics of the birds that they are
watching, and when and where the birds are seen. The above bird
watching equipment can provide a reference for bird watching beginners. |
