Afterthoughts

    Afterthoughts from the students

  • We did the research project about Daxi dried bean curd, and I think it’s very meaningful. During the study process, I took the responsibility for the marketing. The most difficult part for me was searching for the information. In fact, there weren’t many reports about Daxi dried bean curd, especially international export. Luckily, I found some useful reports which helped me a lot.

Through the contest, I hope our project can not only make Daxi dried bean curd more competitive internationally, but also let the whole world have better understanding of Taiwan.

  • Before taking part in the Global Schoolnet Cyberfair contest, I didn’t know much about this. When I took it seriously, I found it was really amazing. All the works in it were so great. I realized that there were so many useful resources that I could use on the Internet. It can help me learn so many different things through it. This contest also let me learn how to collect and analyze information. I thought it was very interesting when I interviewed the shopkeepers in Daxi. It was really a special opportunity that we would never have in the daily life. Moreover, I can get the first-hand information by the interviews. This contest is so great that I learn so many things through it.

  • This is my first time to do a project report, so I was very nervous. There were many things I didn’t understand. I didn’t know the best way to search the information, and I was very worried. Thanks to my teachers, I found the way to do the project. When I interviewed people, I got a lot of useful experience. At first, I didn’t know anything. However, I realized that I would learn some knowledge when keeping doing research. There was a lot of information I needed to sort out to make the project and it was not easy for me. However, when I finished all the work, I was really proud of myself, and I got more confidence. As a ninth grader, it’s a precious experience for me although it is hard to find some time to do the project.

  • I am glad to participate in the contest. Our team chose Daxi Dried Bean Curd because we thought it was a famous product in Taoyuan. At first, we went to Daxi to have a field study. We interviewed many people, such as owners of the bean curd stores and the chairwoman of Daxi Culture Association. We collected a lot of information about bean curd and Daxi. After we went back, we compiled the interview contents and made them into an important document. With all our efforts, we finally finished the project. Although I was tired, I felt excited. I also want to thank our teachers for guiding us in completing the project.

  • In order to make this project better, we spent some weekends searching for and collecting the information. We also interviewed several important people who knew Daxi bean curd well. Daxi Dried Bean Curd is a nice topic for the project because one of the best gifts in Daxi is bean curd. However, many people still don’t know anything about it. I thought it would be great if we could advertise it on the cyberfair and make people around the world know about it. I also learned many things from this project. For instance, I learned the history of Daxi bean curd and various kinds of bean curds. Although I lived in Daxi when I was a child, I didn’t know much information about bean curd. Therefore, I hope this project can really help people know Daxi Dried Bean Curd and have a chance to taste it.

  • This is my first time to join such a huge contest with my classmates of English gifted class. It’s a whole new world for me. My teammates and I chose Daxi bean curd as our topic because it is one of the most famous local food in our hometown. While we were making this project, there were many references and a lot of information we had to collect and read. We also gained a lot of knowledge about Daxi Dried Bean Curd through interviewing shopkeepers. We understood the history and culture more. I like this project very much although it’s a big challenge. We still made it. Whether we win the contest or not, we’ve learned and improved a lot.

    Afterthoughts from the teachers

  • It is a challenge for students to do a research project and build up a website at the same time. They also have to collaborate with one another on the contest. Through the contest, they have learned a lot, such as knowing more about Daxi, knowing the proper way to interview, and overcoming difficulties. It is a great experience for us, and we are proud to accomplish the project together. With our introduction, we hope Daxi Bean Curd can be noticed and loved by people all over the world. Last but not least, as an instructor, I am really proud of my students, and I think they did a great job.

  • When I taught the students to do the independent study, I had just seen the related information about Taiwan School Net Cyberfair. I felt that the website had set the structure of the research very clearly, which was very suitable for students to collect data step by step. In the beginning, students just followed the outline of the research. Later, students said that they would like to participate in the competition. We came up with Daxi Bean Curd as the topic that is generated from our community. We interviewed so many related people, and also got a lot of other ideas for the future recommendation of the research. The teachers not only teach students but also learn more from the project. Through the research, our students are closer to the local culture and turn their observation and findings into English. We hope that more foreigners can know and promote Daxi Bean Curd as the cultural assets of Taiwan and make it be known to the world at the same time. This is what we hope for this project.
