Daxi Dried Bean Curd is famous because it is delicious due to good water quality. Two main manufacturers are Huang Ri-Xiang and Liao Xin-Lan. Since I was little, I have been aware that Daxi is famous for its dried bean curd and beautiful women. Thanks to the marketing of Daxi Dried Bean Curd, Daxi is selected as one of the top ten sightseeing towns. In the past, Huang Ri-Xiang had more interactions with the former President Chiang Ching-kuo. Later, due to the fact that Present Chiang Kai-Shek, father of Ching-Kuo, lived in Daxi Cihu, and after his passing, his coffin was put in the Cihu mausoleum, which is open to tourists, the demand for gifts increased. Thus, the dried bean curd became popular. The sale of the dried bean curd from many vendors has benefited the local economy.
The Daxi Dried Tofu Festival is an event held in March or April. Mayor Zheng Wen-Can hosted the event in 2018. There’s also an event almost once a month to promote local specialties, such as tops and camellia, showing Daxi’s distinguishing features. Because dried bean curd is available all year round, it is the most suitable gift from Daxi to whom you want to give a gift to. Dried bean curd and fermented tofu are also the locals’ first choice of gifts. What is special here is that the local residents eat the dried bean curd with their hands. They don’t like to cut it with a knife for fear that the flavor of their favorite food is negatively affected.
