Content¡GWe decided to make a topic about power. Teacher taught us that we can use YouTube by searching the keywords like ¡§energy¡¨, ¡§electricity¡¨ and ¡§power generation¡¨. We collected some news or documentary films about electricity and took notes to increase the better understanding of it.

Content¡G After we discussed with our members found out that our topic that ¡§Taiwan¡¦s energy¡¨ was too extensive. So we change our topic at ¡§Taipower Company¡¨ which supplies mostly Taiwan¡¦s power. In the other hand, its substation and office is few miles away from our school. Then we use the internet to search some news and files about this company. To our surprise, we found a website held by its company called ¡§Taipower virtual city¡¨ in which had very simple and readable introduction.

¡·Experiencing Tidal power generate machine

Content¡GWe took some videos about tidal power generation. Teacher brought us to the lab to make a simple tidal power generate machine. First, we fill a big bucket of water, put the power generate machine. Then we use our hands to make tides in that bucket to see if there will be any power. The conclusion is quite bad, unless we use our hand to pull the trigger, it was difficult to generate power.

Content¡GOur teachers took us to Songshan Cultural and Creative Park to visit exhibition which calls "Power Infrastructure as Landscape - Taiwan Power Cultural Heritage". The exhibition site mainly introduces hydropower generation, which is the earliest major power generation method in Taiwan. Our guide is retired Director Cheng who used to work in Dajiaxi power plant. There are five areas of exhibition: ¡§River Landscape¡¨, ¡§Water Landscape¡¨, ¡§Public Landscape¡¨, ¡§Mountain Landscape¡¨, and ¡§Memory Landscape¡¨. There are many old photos on the scene including some design drawings, so we can understand the power development process of this century.

Content¡GOur science club members set up the booth for promotion of our project on our school anniversary, ¡§Energy conservation¡¨ and ¡§Safety tips¡¨. We designed two posters. One is the introduction of saving power and consuming power, while the other one is a list of details to alert everyone how to use power. To make the posters, we read several books, searched for information on the topic, and organized the photos and documents of our interviews. We also designed five true or false questions and check which they have done to save power in our questionnaire to know visitors¡¦ comprehension on our topic. To draw more people¡¦s attention, we provided coupons as prizes from the sponsor, our School Store. We arranged tasks for teammates the day before the school anniversary. It¡¦s glad to see that many students and teacher involve this promotion.

Cotent¡GOn November 12th, 2018, we walked to the Taiwan Power Company around our school to take a visit because it has a substation there. When we got to the briefing room, the manager, Chuan-Wu Dai, introduce the development of the electric power industry to us. After the presentation, we take the look at the infrastructure of Shilin substation. After that, we went back to the briefing room to have a short interview.

¡·Visiting Taipower Exhibition Center in Northern Taiwan and power plants

Content¡G Our school did a big favor provided a bus which make our intense trip much easier. First we arrived at Taipower Exhibition Center in Northern Taiwan next to the second Nuclear Power plant. There exhibits the history of Taipower and how the nuclear plants works. Then we went to the First Nuclear Power Plant. Here, we learned how the nuclear plants react when it comes to typhoons or earthquakes. By the way, we also learned how the First Nuclear Power Plant decommissioning went. After that, we went to visit Shimen wind power plant and Linkou Power Plant. We did not only visit these places but also have some interview with the staffs.

Content¡G Last time, we did not have much time to do interview, but this time, we could use our rest time to go visit Taipei North Service Office and interview two staffs there. When we interviewed the maintenance staffs, they let us wear the insulated gloves and write down our names. It was hard to move our fingers with the insulated gloves. They even need to repair the power quickly with these gloves. At last, we tried to ride on the lift of engineering vehicle, but other classmates joked that it was ¡§Taipower Ferris Wheel¡¨!

Content¡GWe went to Taipower building to visiting the Smart Grid Exhibition Hall. Then we interview the Taipower Spokesman Tsao-Hua Hsu. Smart Grid Exhibition Hall is divided into six exhibition areas, namely ¡§Smart User¡¨, ¡§Self-Power Generation¡¨, ¡§Friendly Innovation¡¨, ¡§Smart Dispatch¡¨, ¡§Smart Distribution¡¨ and ¡§Development Vision¡¨. Although the exhibition was not big, everyone was wide-opened and felt like seeing the future world under the detailed explanation of the staff. In our lives, we do not only use smartphones, but also the supply and application of electricity in smart way!

Content¡GWe learned to read bill by using the website ¡§Taipower Virtual City¡¨. Knowing that what one degree of electricity is and how the electricity fee count. By the way, we found that the electricity fee in Taiwan is cheaper than other countries. Although the electricity fee is cheap, we hope everyone should save power. Or there won¡¦t be enough power.

¡·Maintenance interview

Content¡GThe maintenance staffs, Shih-Huang Li and Ta-Yeh Chen, brought us to Taipower maintenance training center in Xinbeitou. We watched the maintenance staffs climb up to the top of electric pole and down. We realized the fear of height until it was our turn to climb up the electric poles. The Taipower personnel must not only overcome the height, but also carry out high-risk maintenance work. They really got our respect. Furthermore, we should appreciate their hard work for bringing the convenience of electricity life.
