Content¡GWe decided to make a topic about power.
Teacher taught us that we can use YouTube by searching the
keywords like ¡§energy¡¨, ¡§electricity¡¨ and ¡§power
generation¡¨. We collected some news or documentary films
about electricity and took notes to increase the better
understanding of it. |

Content¡GWe drew mind maps to collect our ideas about
power generation features like thermal power, hydropower,
nuclear power, wind power, and solar energy. We felt a great
sense of achievements organizing our ideas by mind maps. |

Topic¡GGet to know Taipower
Content¡G After we discussed with our members found
out that our topic that ¡§Taiwan¡¦s energy¡¨ was too extensive.
So we change our topic at ¡§Taipower Company¡¨ which supplies
mostly Taiwan¡¦s power. In the other hand, its substation and
office is few miles away from our school. Then we use the
internet to search some news and files about this company.
To our surprise, we found a website held by its company
called ¡§Taipower virtual city¡¨ in which had very simple and
readable introduction. |

Topic¡GExperiencing Tidal power generate machine
Content¡GWe took some videos about tidal power
generation. Teacher brought us to the lab to make a simple
tidal power generate machine. First, we fill a big bucket of
water, put the power generate machine. Then we use our hands
to make tides in that bucket to see if there will be any
power. The conclusion is quite bad, unless we use our hand
to pull the trigger, it was difficult to generate power.

Content¡GOur teachers took us to Songshan Cultural and
Creative Park to visit exhibition which calls "Power
Infrastructure as Landscape - Taiwan Power Cultural
Heritage". The exhibition site mainly introduces hydropower
generation, which is the earliest major power generation
method in Taiwan. Our guide is retired Director Cheng who
used to work in Dajiaxi power plant. There are five areas of
exhibition: ¡§River Landscape¡¨, ¡§Water Landscape¡¨, ¡§Public
Landscape¡¨, ¡§Mountain Landscape¡¨, and ¡§Memory Landscape¡¨.
There are many old photos on the scene including some design
drawings, so we can understand the power development process
of this century. |

Content¡GOur science club members set up the booth for
promotion of our project on our school anniversary, ¡§Energy
conservation¡¨ and ¡§Safety tips¡¨. We designed two posters.
One is the introduction of saving power and consuming power,
while the other one is a list of details to alert everyone
how to use power. To make the posters, we read several
books, searched for information on the topic, and organized
the photos and documents of our interviews. We also designed
five true or false questions and check which they have done
to save power in our questionnaire to know visitors¡¦
comprehension on our topic. To draw more people¡¦s attention,
we provided coupons as prizes from the sponsor, our School
Store. We arranged tasks for teammates the day before the
school anniversary. It¡¦s glad to see that many students and
teacher involve this promotion. |

which make our intense trip much easier. First we arrived at
Taipower Exhibition Center in Northern Taiwan next to the
second Nuclear Power plant. There exhibits the history of
Taipower and how the nuclear plants works. Then we went to
the First Nuclear Power Plant. Here, we learned how the
nuclear plants react when it comes to typhoons or
earthquakes. By the way, we also learned how the First
Nuclear Power Plant decommissioning went. After that, we
went to visit Shimen wind power plant and Linkou Power
Plant. We did not only visit these places but also have some
interview with the staffs. |

interview, but this time, we could use our rest time to go
visit Taipei North Service Office and interview two staffs
there. When we interviewed the maintenance staffs, they let
us wear the insulated gloves and write down our names. It
was hard to move our fingers with the insulated gloves. They
even need to repair the power quickly with these gloves. At
last, we tried to ride on the lift of engineering vehicle,
but other classmates joked that it was ¡§Taipower Ferris

divided into six exhibition areas, namely ¡§Smart User¡¨,
¡§Self-Power Generation¡¨, ¡§Friendly Innovation¡¨, ¡§Smart
Dispatch¡¨, ¡§Smart Distribution¡¨ and ¡§Development Vision¡¨.
Although the exhibition was not big, everyone was
wide-opened and felt like seeing the future world under the
detailed explanation of the staff. In our lives, we do not
only use smartphones, but also the supply and application of
electricity in smart way! |

Content¡GWe learned to read bill by using the website
¡§Taipower Virtual City¡¨. Knowing that what one degree of
electricity is and how the electricity fee count. By the
way, we found that the electricity fee in Taiwan is cheaper
than other countries. Although the electricity fee is cheap,
we hope everyone should save power. Or there won¡¦t be enough
power. |

Content¡GThe maintenance staffs, Shih-Huang Li and Ta-Yeh
Chen, brought us to Taipower maintenance training center in
Xinbeitou. We watched the maintenance staffs climb up to the
top of electric pole and down. We realized the fear of
height until it was our turn to climb up the electric poles.
The Taipower personnel must not only overcome the height,
but also carry out high-risk maintenance work. They really
got our respect. Furthermore, we should appreciate their
hard work for bringing the convenience of electricity life. |
