Wu-Ling-Gong Temple

Wu-Ling-Gong Temple, Tianwo

Wu-Ling-Gong (五靈宮) are five gods of plague. A story says these five gods were the spirits of gull, frog, monkey, clam and sea bass. In the past, miasma-caused diseases had a very high death rate. They believe gods of plague will bless them and keep them from getting sick. Today, gods of plague have also become guardian gods of villages. Many islands have Wu-Ling-Gong temples in Matsu.
