Temples in Xiju
Temples on Matsu Islands have different sources. Some of the gods are brought here by ancestors, some are corpses found on the beach and people establishing a temple for him (or her), and some are the statues of a god floating from other places and people also establishing a temple for them. Most of them are enshrined in the original temples, but some of them have their own new temple because the god made their presence left. The way people burying a corpse found on the beach and establishing a temple is common in Fuzhou, and people in Matsu were moved from Fuzhou, due to cultural continuity, most of the temples on Xiju Island are mostly from these sources.
