Hsiao Huang Yeh Temple

The origin of Hsiao Huang Yeh Temple

According to the legend, Hsiao Ming Guang(蕭明光) was from Changle City in Fujian. He met a shipwreck on his way home. After he passed away, his body floated to Tianwo beach and the villagers buried him. Because the wishes that villagers made to him were usually efficacious, they build a temple for him.

As the story goes, a military ship got stranded on the beach in front of the temple when seizing a beachhead. After two weeks, the ship was still stuck on the beach. The captain heard from the villagers, so he invoked for City God's bless by worshiping him. And the next day, the sea level became higher and the ship finally got off the beach. To thank the City God, the captain rebuilt the temple. The story was spread to the military, so there are many soldiers come to worship for leaving army safe and sound.
