Matsu archipelago is consisted of manly granite rocks, with the effects of millions of years of sea and wind erosion having formed a wide variety of terrain and scenery; precipitous cliff faces, ocean erosion ditches, distinctly tiered joints, arches bridges, columns, caves, and other formations caused by the pounding of the waves can be seen all over the Matsu Islands. Juguang Township is located on continental shelf near the estuary of Min River.
In Matsu, only Juguang is consisted of rhyolite(流紋岩), others are made up of granite. Therefore, Juguang is quite special to the rest islands. The cliff here is precipitous and full of joints due to the effects of sea and wind erosion. Xiju has various marine species and unique plants, and its original environment provides the best stop for migration of birds. You can see the trace of the endangered "mythical bird of Matsu - Chinese Crested Tern" here, and it becomes all the rage. Battlefield heritage and cultural features are also what you cannot miss!
