To develop Nanke into a sustainable green park, a total of 33 green buildings, 9 high end green architecture and 7 green factories have been completed. What is a green building? Is it a building painted in green? Or is it the secret childhood treehouse? What effects do green buildings have? How do they save energy and reduce carbon emissions? …

I think if we took a trip around Nanke, we would find out exactly what green architecture is. Let's go.

Green building ( Green construction or Sustainable building) refers to both a structure and the using of processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building's life-cycle: from siting to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation, and demolition.The main purpose is Efficiently using energy, water, and other resources,Protecting occupant health and improving employee productivity and Reducing waste, pollution and environmental degradation.

on the other hand,green building design involves finding the balance between homebuilding and the sustainable environment. Green Building practice expands and complements the classical building design concerns of economy, utility, durability, and comfort.

Different types of green buildings

"Green architecture" has different names, definitions and meanings in different countries as introduced below:

Japan

The earliest development of green buildings, known as Environmental Symbiotic Housing, include “Low Impact”, “High Contact”, "Amenities & Health”, aimed to create "global environmental preservation", “affinity of surrounding environments" and “healthy living environments” etc.

Europe

Named green buildings "Ecological Building” or "Sustainable Building” and emphasized ecological balance, conservation, diversity of species, recycling of resources, renewable energy and efficiency, diversity of ecology, environmental conservation, control of burden on the environment as well as sustainable development.

It was the same with us said Green Building, emphasis on energy efficiency and conservation, indoor air quality, resource and material efficiency,and environmental friendly .

Integration

Even though the name and meaning of “green building”, energy, resources and environmental conditions differ from country to country, generally, every country require the development of such buildings, to reduce burden on the environment, increase awareness of the environment, sustain low carbon rates and green energy, and achieve a symbiotic relation with the environment. To promote the spirit of sustainable development, and create the ideal green silicon island, Taiwan began the development of green buildings in 1995 and initiated the "outer building energy efficiency method" through the construction and planning agency. In 1996, the Executive Yuan established the "National Council for Sustainable Development”.

Till now, Taiwan's development of green building has little effect. With 2,818 buildings with certification, it has the world's highest density. Taiwan not only progresses in economy, transportation, culture, industry and other aspects, but also the ecology of the environment, slowly rising on the international level.

When it comes to Nanke green buildings, we have to mention NNKIEH, a school covering an area of 10.2 hectares with newly designed buildings. Among the newly designed buildings, the middle school department was awarded the “Green Building” mark. The rest of the campus designed by Mu Xian Liu's Architecture includes: dorms, two high school buildings, library, committee room, gymnasium, basketball court, volleyball court, tennis court... These were constructed by 2010 with a total fee approximately 6 billion.

Nanke Train Station's Solar Applications

In addition, Nanke train station has a design of two station platforms with cross-site station buildings. Most importantly, Nanke train station's use of solar panels that provides its electricity is the first case among Taiwan Railway.
