Class Zhi
Ms. Wang

Song Selection: Ms. Wang considered students’ familiarity with different songs, so she first picked the one that they were familiar with. Since Chinese New Year was around the corner, so she picked a song about Chinese New Year.
Assigning vocal parts: After testing, Ms. Wang arranged vocal parts according to pitch and range. Vocal parts were adjusted constantly throughout the practice.
Training: After vocal parts were finalized, the team started the melody by humming. After students were familiar with the melody, Ms. Wang then added in the poem. She instructed the accompaniment separately before combining with the lead. After the class was familiar with the song and poem, she then started arranging for some body actions.

Team selection: Ms. Lee picked a soft song and a hard song, so she needed both boys and girls. Since students were very interested in it, she decided to get the whole class involved. The whole class practiced together, and then she picked out the ones with a better pitch and assigned them to harmony. The rest of them were divided into four groups, each responsible a different instrument. Some kids were able to whistle, so they were in charge of voice percussion.

Class Red
Ms. Lee

Song Selection: Ms. Lee originally planned to do a suite with varying tempo to create layering in listening. The boys were poised and funny, so she decided to take the melody from the song ‘Justice Bao’ with the poem Liangzhou Verse . She added in some boyish dance moves to let them go wild. As for the girls, their voice was soft and sweet, so she chose the song ‘Bāng Chhun-hong’ with the poem A Song of the Travelling Son to bring out the feeling of motherly-love.
Assigning vocal parts: Since the girls got a better pitch better, they were in charge of the melody. In order to stabilize the pitch, She got two girls with a good pitch and asked them to sing a couple of lines before the whole class started. It was difficult for boys to sing in girl’s key, so they were in charge of harmony.
Training: The class started training by groups, singing and harmony practiced together to get the pitch right. Then Ms. Lee asked each group to count the beats until they were able to start on the same beat. After team chemistry got better, the whole class started practicing together. Ms. Lee recorded both songs and sent them to the parents so kids could practice at home.
