Visions

Since the Small Small Bookshop was established in 2006, each step has been heading in the direction of the Sappho’s original plan and ideas. Even after moving stores and changing staff, the Small Small Bookshop is still here and still promoting reading at every opportunity.

Although running an independent bookstore is a very difficult task, however Sappho has no regrets. No matter whether about the bookstore or previous career, she has no regrets. Sappho said “You can change, but you can’t have regrets. Regrets can’t get you the time back, but in the future you can still do all the things that you haven’t done yet!”

As well as running the bookstore and community activities, Sappho has also devoted time to areas that have less reading resources like the rural areas of Hualien, Taitung and Hsinchu. The Small Small Bookshop has no plans to open another branch, but she does hope that in the future, funds permitting, she can convert the one storey bookstore into three stories. One storey as it is now, another just for children’s books and a further storey for selling organic produce. In order to keep the bookstore open for a long time, in 2012 Sappho visited between 50 and 60 bookstores in China to learn about bookstore management techniques.

Because of the love that the Small Small Bookshop has for books, no matter at the original location or the new location, the bookstore does its best to promote reading. People reading and loving books is Sappho’s motivation to continue pushing books!
