We Love Small Small

After interviewing the owner and the people who work at the Small Small Bookshop, we learnt a lot more and we used our free time in the holidays to go to the library to do research about Small Small. Even after 6 years of hard work, many people still don’t know anything about the bookshop.
We conducted the survey into the public’s reading habits and at the same time introduced them to the Small Small Bookshop too.
We hope after sharing with the public, they now have a new place read and look for books.

Gathering and Team Grouping

This was our first time to enter the community and conduct a survey and promote the bookshop. The teacher’s put us into 3 teams to give us courage to talk to the public. After getting into teams, everyone started to practice what they would say and do.

The Survey

“Hello! Do you have a moment to spare?” After the Yu-Tsai Bookworms politely greet the public, they then begin the survey. If people look as though they don’t understand something during the survey, the bookworms did their best to help explain. Some people were in a hurry and didn’t have time to stop and even though this made us a little sad, we kept working hard.

Introducing the Small Small Bookshop

Of course most people were very enthusiastic about helping is complete the survey. After completing the survey, the bookworms used a map and some writing to introduce the Small Small Bookshop further. They explained why the bookshop is unique and helped the public to learn a little more about it. If they met anyone who already knew about the bookshop, they asked them to share their experience.

[ TV Interview ]

As the Bookworms were busy introducing Small Small, something interesting happened – a reporter from CTV came to visit us! This was a rare opportunity! We got to promote Small Small to the whole of Taiwan on national TV!

[ 200 Surveys Later… ]

Under everyone’s hard work, we were able to complete 200 surveys in the Yonghe District. We also managed to successfully promote Small Small to 200 people as well as doing it on TV too! Everyone took a picture together next to Dingxi MRT. Today’s mission was successfully completed!

With this questionnaire activity, I discovered that the location of where the questionnaire was conducted would actually affect the results very differently. In addition, I learned not to judge a book by its cover. Sometimes we saw some people walking by without any smile on their faces, but as soon as we approached them with the questionnaire, they became very friendly and helpful.

At first, I was shy to ask people to do the questionnaires, so when other group members already got 4 or 5 questionnaires done, I only got 2 done. I fell way behind. Finally, I got up my nerves to ask more people to do the questionnaires. At first, I got turned down by many people, but I was not discouraged. I asked more people and eventually got my share done. I experienced both the cold shoulders of those who refused and the warmth of those helpful strangers. Now I understand what a hard job it is to get the questionnaires done. In the future, if anyone asks me to help her with a questionnaire, I will definitely help her with no hesitation.

This is my first to send out questionnaires. At first I was afraid to give them out to people to write, but after the teacher’s encouragement, I sent them out.
Although I have been refused, I kept thinking, “never mind, better luck next time!” After this experience of handing out questionnaires to strangers, I find I have gained more courage and confidence! And I found that good friends and couples are more likely to agree to answer the questionnaires when approached.
