Lots of people have a romantic image of what working in a bookstore is like. Actually working at Small Small you’d find that there’s a lot more to it than you’d imagine.
At Small Small apart from learning about the basic operation and maintenance of the shop, you also have to keep the place tidy, close up late in the evening and get used to working unusual hours. To do the events, you need a scooter and driver’s licence and you need to be happy to work outdoors whatever the conditions are like. Things like this mean that the job is not suitable for everyone.

Basic Operating:

Mission
Keeping the shop clean and preparing food and drinks.
Ordering Stock and Communicating with Manufacturers


This includes organising new stock and returning damaged goods, dealing with online orders, organising book displays, and contacting manufacturers.
Ordering Goods
Every two weeks, the book displays and book club needs to be organised. The book club and events mean a lot of books get ordered.
Customer Service

You have to smile and chat with the customers and introduce the shops history and concept to them. You also have to prepare food and keep the tables clean.
New Books
When books arrive, the need to be accounted for, put into storage or onto the shelves.
Events
You need to deal with the customers during events and communicate with the lecturers in the owner’s absence.
Accounting
All of the receipts need to be accounted for each month.

An Interest in the Arts:
The staff have a lot of opportunities to come into contact with publishers and artists and they need to be interested in these issues.
Community:
You need to be able to work with outside organizations and the community.
The Internet:
As well as dealing with the community, you also need to be able to communicated with internet users too.
Reading:
Because Small Small Bookshop is a bookstore, the clerks will enter the world of books, so they need to read books.
