        Din Tai Fung is a successful brand. It has a clear aim and an incredible managing team. The following “SWOT” analysis is made after many polls, some interviews, data collection, and discussions. We hope to make Din Tai Fung even better through our research.

Strength

  • It is very well-known.
  • The automation ordering system is working well.
  • They have five-star services.
  • Their food is of high standard quality.
  • Their stores are in good locations.
  • They have a lot of branches.

Weakness

  • You have to wait for a long time before eating.
  • The prices are too high and there are too little discounts.
  • They have too many international branches. The headquarters might not be able to manage all of them well.

Opportunity

  • The habits of diet are changing through time.
  • They might want to make food for vegetarians.
  • They can have more discounts in the future.
    They can merge all the cultures together in different branch stores to suit customers’ diet need.

Threat

  • The habits of diet are changing through time, which might affect their sales.

1.Strengths                                                                                     

      Din Tai Fung has many advantages in the following areas:

  • Well-known
          Din Tai Fung has won many big awards, like the Michelin 1 star, New York top ten restaurant and etc. Steamed pork dumplings always remind people about Din Tai Fung. They have  become the steamed pork dumplings’ best spokesman.
  • Efficient electronic ordering
          In the year 2001, Din Tai Fung established the information department and began the electronic ordering. It improved the speed for ordering and serving, and they also controlled the customers’ needs better.
  • Five-Star service
          
    Every server in Din Tai Fung are polite, kind and pay special attention to what the customers want. This kind of service let the customers think they are in a five-star restaurant.
  • Products uniformization
          After Din Tai Fung had established the central kitchen, every products were made indentially. The food qualities are all indential at each store. So, every store becomes the best advertisement.
  • Good location
          Every Din Tai Fung store is on the famous road. Because of this, Din Tai Fung can attract more customers.
  • Worldwide branches
          Din Tai Fung now own 68 stores, and in many countries. Like this, Din Tai Fung attacts more customers than the other stores that have no branch stores.

      Although Din Tai Fung is a big company, they still have a lot of ways to improve themselves. The following disadvantages are reported as we interviewed and browsed the web for information.

  • Long Waiting Time
          Din Tai Fung has small stores but millions of customers. Many waiting customers might be inpatient and choose another restaurant. In this way, their competitors might have a bigger chance to get their customers. If you look from a long term, it might affect the sales.
  • High Prices and Few Discounts
          Din Tai Fung is famous for its best ingredients and best service. Consequently, their costs are much higher than their competitors. Also, it has few discounts, which makes it even worse. To a lunchroom, the price is way too high. If the customers didn’t know why, they couldn’t understand Din Tai Fung’s insistency in their high-quality products, and also the fact that the price is actually worth it.
  • International Branches
          Din Tai Fung has branches in 10 countries all over the world. Despite the fact that their branches help them advertise their products around the world, people in other countries might not like their products due to cultural reasons. Also, it is very hard to control the quality in international branches. If anything happens, Din Tai Fung’s credit might fall back.

      In the future, Din Tai Fung has many opportunities to expand its kingdom……

  • Vegetarian Foods
          Although Din Tai Fung has some vegetarian foods, but they don’t have cuisines and soup that is specially made for the vegetarians. If Din Tai Fung can produce some vegetarian foods, Din Tai Fung can capture vegetarians’ hearts, and also follow the fashion of health and longevity.
  • Discount
          Many customers like discount because they think discount can save money. If Din Tai Fung can have some discounts for the customers, more customers will come. Then Din Tai Fung can make more money.
  • Culture
          When Din Tai Fung wants to have branch store in different countries, they can learn about the country’s culture, then have a little change on the food style. They can add some chilies into the steamed pork dumplings, be the only cuisine in this country. Like this, the nationals will be proud of their own kind of steamed pork dumplings and enjoy about Din Tai Fung’s creativity.

  • A Change of the Eating Habits
          In the past few years, the idea of healthy diet rose. More vegetables and less meat became the philosophy of diet! However, Din Tai Fung’s famous steamed pork dumplings continue to use pork as its main ingredients. The healthy diet industry is quietly dividing Din Tai Fung’s market and winning more customers’ hearts.
  • Competition
          In the food market, many companies claim that they have chefs and cook that came from Din Tai Fung, especially the rising Dian Shui Lou. Not only they have recruited the Din Tai Fung chefs, they also have an extremely high budget on opening restaurants. Dian Shui Lou spends an awful lot of money in its interior design to build a Chinese atmosphere-filled restaurant. The owner of the company is best at marketing and advertising. It is now becoming a threat to Din Tai Fung.
