Work Logs

Work logs definitely make Din Tai Fung different from other restaurants. From the top management levels to the entire employees, all staffs, include dishwashing workers and janitors, are required to complete work logs when they finish their works every day. All of the work logs are filed electronically.

Why do the staffs need to write work logs? What kind of information do they write in the logs? Who is supposed to read the logs? What role does a work log play in Din Tai Fung? Let’s find out together!

The content of a work log includes what they have done and learned in a day. The staffs can write about what the problems they have faced at work are, how they solve the problems, what they have learned from the experience, and how they can do better next time. If they have any special ideas, constructive suggestions, or personal feelings, they also can write in the work logs.

      Who will read work logs?

The managers of each department will read them. All managers need to read work logs every day and provide feedback, awards, encouragements, or suggestions from time to time. All important opinions and suggestions will also be reported to higher level managers.

      Will Mr. Yang read them?

Yes, he will! He reads the logs frequently! In his daily visit to all the restaurants, he mentions the work logs to specific employees, so the employees always feel their opinions are valued. Once their ideas from the work logs are actually practiced in the restaurant, they receive rewards! How wonderful it is!
Work logs provide an open space for the staffs to communicate with their managers and the company. These logs also help the restaurant make great progress in their cooking and serving skills every year.
