In the very densely populated city of Yung Ho, there is a slice of paradise where you can see butterflies and dragonflies flying around, even birds from as far away as Siberia choose to make this waterfront their home. This area is below the Fuhe Bridge and it's called the Yung Ho Community University Eco-park.

Within this 20000m2 eco-park, there is a vegetable patch, wetland, ecology classroom and at least 500 kinds of plants that are endemic to Taiwan. It's the best outdoor classroom for learning about nature, wetlands and ecology. Not only that, it is also won first place in the 2004 Ford Conversation and Environmental Protection Awards. The story behind the eco-park is a moving one and this is our attempt to record it.

Origins......

After the development of the Yung Ho Community University's wetland ecology curriculum, the students visited a number of wetlands. They got to see the endangered Taipei grass frog, and the increasingly rare dwarf water clover. However they also saw the results of economic and transportation development, and the blocking of water sources which has led to the wetlands becoming "drylands".
With industrial development and the building up of industrial areas and roads, the habitats of Taiwan's endemic plants species have begun to disappear one by one and we haven't even began to learn about them.
"Let's Think of a Solution!"
Yung Ho Community University teachers and students are just like the spokespeople for the life forms that live in the park. These plants and animals are constantly crying for help, hoping that a similar catastrophe will not fall upon them again. Because of this the students came to a realization. If they can create a real habitat conservation initiative, that allows students to come into contact with and experience nature first-hand, and confirm all of the knowledge that they learn in class through this, then that will be of real significance.
One student, Pan-Pan, proposed the establishment of the aquatic training pond. He also received the approval and support of everyone in this project. This idea and provided the motivation needed to allow the seeds of the ecology park to grow.
