Origins

“Giving the riverside a new appearance” with this idea in mind, the Shiu Dang Dang Volunteers established their organization in September, 2003. The goals in the building of the Yung Ho Community University Eco-farm and administration of the Xindian Riverside Wetlands were not only to study the ecology of the area, but also to maintain and restore the land. They hoped to be able to conserve the ecology of the area . The following we will shorten the name of Shiu Dang Dang Volunteers as the name of SDD.

Goals

  • To be responsible for the administration of the eco-park.
  • To give guide tours of the park.
  • To collect and analyze data concerning the eco-park.
  • To develop the ability to survey the park's ecology.
  • To develop a spirit of conservation.
  • To collect sample of aquatic plants.

Objectives

  • Implementation of ecological conversation – Restoring and transplanting the endangered indigenous plants of Taiwan and allowing them to multiply in nature.
  • To make the restoration of aquatic plants from central to northern Taiwan a goal. It is hoped that the north of Taiwan can become a centre for the restoration of aquatic plants.
  • In the future to make the eco-park an operational base for tourism and eco-conservation.
  • Train guides for the eco-park who can introduce the park to the public.
  • To discuss ecosystems and habitat management systems. To develop understanding and learning in order to allow people to live in harmony with nature.
  • To operate a joint management system so that management is sustainable, species are preserved and the park is able to fulfill its responsibilities for eco-conservation.
