Gandhanra Image description

Gandhanra represents the incarnation of Tzu Chi people everywhere in the world, 362 in total number.  Each Gandhanra has different outfits and look; their postures all represent different things.  Gandhanra is made of white brass which becomes green gradually because of oxidization.  Hence, we can only see green Gandhanras in the future and the eaves of Still Thoughts Hall will look nicer.

White Brass Gate

White Brass Gate—like Gandhanra, it is also made of white brass and will become green afterwards.  There are two sides, 16 grids on the inside.  Combining these 16 grids is a story about a Master becoming a monk.  On the other side is all about still thoughts and adobe of still thoughts.  This gate only opens at important moments.

Expansion Joint—

Expansion Joint—it is built between Monk Plaza and the Main Hall to avoid ground cleaving.  Sophisticatedly, lids are made on it with embossments.

Several big handrails embossed with lotuses are next to Monk Plaza.  Animals are embossed underneath the handrails.  All handrails are made of granite because it is durable and not easy to be damaged.

Image descriptionLotus Chairs

They are ideas of Brother Huang.  They have many functions; they can be sat on and for worship purpose.  The chairs and the chair mats can be opened to put things inside such as shoelaces and lunch bags.

Tzu Cheng Boulevard Image description-

Still Thoughts Hall was not yet finished on the 30th anniversary.  In order to hold the first anniversary, more than 100 people came to pave grass on it in only one night.  They really accomplished this impossible mission in simply one night.  In order to commemorate this impossible task, they paved a road with stones in lotus shapes.

Image descriptionConstruction -

Still Thoughts Hall was constructed with SRC steel structure.  Earthquake proof is above 4.0 degree.
I counld hear about lots of details I had never heard before to walk with Brother Huang.  Now I have more knowledge of Still Thoughts Hall and know more stories.  For example, there is a “Medical Treatment” in all the bronze statues.  Brother Huang told us that there was an old man whom the Tzu Chi doctor saw and helped with his spine.  Afterwards, he could walk straightly.  How great the treatment was!  I wish I can listen to Brother Huang telling more stories if I have chance to meet him again.
