Spring all year

longHengchun is located to the south of Tropic of Cancer, between N22 15' and 21 50'. Hengchun has the only tropical monsoon climate in Taiwan.The coldest month of the year, average temperature goes at 20.6C, is in Jaunary. And the hottest month, average temperature goes at 28.3C, is in July.

"Hengchun" just means forever spring in Chinese literaly. The area is blessed with springlike weather throughout the year. The ever-vernal climate drove Shen Baojen, the Ching Dynasty imperial commissioner, came here to build a city and name it "Hengchun".

Because of the surrounding sea on three sides, it's not very muggy as the subtropics climate in Taiwan. Being subjected to the ocean influences, it's usually sunny but not muggy in summer. And warmer than north Taiwan in winter, it does reward its beautiful name -forever spring!

However, Hengchun is also famous for its "Down Hill Winds", the strong gale from the end of October to next February every year. It's one of the three oddest things of Hengchun. The strong gale starts when the trade wind comes every year, the gale is dry and blows as strong as a light typhoon. Although no damage would cause, it has deep influence in local ecology, farming, style of farming house and way of living, etc .
