Siraya--instruments

Wind Instruments

  • Nose Flute
(Moved the mouse to hear!)

The middle one is the Double Nose Flute, and the one on the left is the Nose Flute.

Judged from the name, the instrument is played with one's nose. Listening to its high-pitch elegant sound is just like being in an Asian forest or forested mountains. (It has a soft tone, so one has to listen carefully.)

  • Double Nose Flute

It makes touching sounds of sadness and helplessness, and is mostly used for the evening performance.

  • Bamboo Flute

It can be performed in water to produce echo effects; the amount of the air that the performer blows into the Bamboo Flute may also affect its tones. Putting water into a bucket, and moving the bamboo flute upward and downward can produce the musical effects.

Percussion Instruments

  • Jews-Harp
(Moved the mouse to hear!)

It can produce elegant tunes and the sounds like Duai Duai and sometimes, the overtones of mystery. It is also an instrument to be played at night. In the past, when a man needed a mate, he simply played the Bamboo Harmonica in front of the woman's house, and the woman made a decision of whether to go out with the man by judging the music quality he has played.

  • Bamboo Xylophone
(Moved the mouse to hear!)

It produces loud yet shrill sounds, which are associated with the sounds of waving trees, sweeping winds, fun-having birds, and dripping water. It is played by being struck by sticks, similar to the xylophone or the glockenspiel.

  • Bamboo Glockenspiel
(Moved the mouse to hear!)

The resonant sounds and echoing effects make it a solo instrument. Its sound resemble that of the glockenspiel, more piercing than the aforementioned Bamboo Xylophone.

  • Saw Fiddle
(Moved the mouse to hear!)

This instrument is not made by Grandpa Wan; it is bought. It is not easy to play the instrument; sometimes it can't produce a sound. The sound of the saw fiddle resembles the background music used in horror movies and it can make one get goose bumps.

Tube Instruments

  • Stick and the Slit Tube
(Moved the mouse to hear!)

It produces loud and piercing sounds that release joy, excitement, and the sensation to dance. It may make a multiple-scale instrument by adding bamboo nodes, which is still under experiment.

  • Stamping Tube
(Moved the mouse to hear!)

It makes deep yet elegant sounds that bring joy and fun by hitting on the ground. The length of the bamboo tube determines its tone.

  • Buzzer
(Moved the mouse to hear!)

The loud, warm and sincere buzzing sounds are produced, similar to the sound of hitting a quilt: Duai Duai.
