Bamboo shootBamboo shoots mainly grow in the mountains of Da-Keng Farm, , Sin-hua Township, at Da-Keng-Wei located in the eastern end of Sin-hua. The bamboo shoot is in season around May, June and July every year. It tastes crunchy and sweet. It is also a low-calorie fibrous food and a health food for modern people. The Kou-Pi area, in the eastern side of Sin-hua has always been known for its bamboo-dominated industry. Local residents are mostly descendents of Siraya Pingpu tribe. The bamboo is closely related to their everyday lives. They use it to build houses, eat it as food and make handicrafts or even toys. In 1999, Siraya Bamboo shoot Festival was held. It was an integration of local industries, Siraya culture and natural resources in honor of the bamboo. While we taste the delicious bamboo shoots, do not forget to feel the bamboo culture in Siraya and learn the values of integrity and modesty! |

Pineapple |

The pineapple is mainly grown in suburb farm lands of Sin-hua Township. It is classified into red-skinned, yellow-skinned and green-skinned species. Sin-hua Chih-Yi Neighborhood and Shan-Jiao Neighborhood slope land have larger pineapple cultivation areas with abundant red-skinned pineapples but they are more inferior in taste. The pineapple grows in high-temperature places and is highly heat tolerant. Featured by juicy and fragrant flesh, the pineapple has rich calcium and iron content. It is considered a delicious fruit. The pineapple has many uses, other than being eaten as food after the peel is removed, it may be cooked with meat to make it soft and tender. The pineapple peel may be beaten and wrapped in cloth to be used as medicinal paste for external injuries. Pineapple enzyme extracted from fresh pineapples may be used to treat scurvy, heart disease, burn, fester, and ulcer etc. Most importantly, the pineapple brings everyone Wang-Lai meaning good fortunes. |
