An
Air of Humanity |

One
of the most appealing features of Houli is its richness of humanity.
Toyota's TV commercial had introduced this hometown of saxophones
to the fellow citizens. This unique industry has made Houli into
the music capital of Taiwan that is rich in art and history. |

After
Mr. Chang Lien-Cheng had formed the first band with other gentlemen
and doctors in the area, other people followed suit with their own
bands. Houli's saxophone makers not only know how to manufacture
saxophones, they also know how to play them, making the factories
the perfect place to train musicians. A Houli elder once said, "One
out of ten people in Houli knows more than one musical instrument"
to describe the popularity of music in this town. |

Houli's
location is in the middle of Taiwan, with high temperature
and humidity. During the summer, the temperature is high,
with lots of precipitation; during the winter, it is dry with
little precipitation. Couple this climate with the proper
pH in the soil makes this area suitable for growing agricultural
products. The major products include flowers, pears, persimmons,
grapes, potatoes, and rice. The grape wine in particular is
quite famous and sought after. |
Houli
is also famous for its red wine. |

It
is worth mentioning that Houli's flower planting area and
quantity are ranked number two in the nation. It produces
numerous types of flowers, such as orchids, lilies, and flaming
plants. During the peak season, a sea of flowers is a very
pretty sight. During the leisure time, people would play their
saxophones in the field, both entertaining themselves and
the passersby. The fragrance of the flowers and the melodious
notes of the saxophone combine in harmony to produce a picture
of relaxation, adding an air of humanity to this town. |
Houli's
production of flowers ranks number 2 in Taiwan. |
