There is a woman who tried to take care of all the boxes which will be recycled outside of a diner. It is hard to image that at her age, she is well-executed. She is the one we will have interviews with and her name is Ms Shi-Mei Lee.

Grandma Lee comes from the countryside of PingTung. She married to Grandpa Chao who is from ShanTung , China . How could this marriage engaged? Let's go back to 1949. As a soldier, Grandpa Chao came to Taiwan with his troops. He was assigned to be a driver for a warehouse in Taipei . At the same time, Grandma was a young girl who lived in PingTung. Even though the distance between them was only four hundred kilometers, they still had no connection to each other. Finally, the key person showed up. The person and the matchmaker was Grandma Lee's mother!!

Grandma Lee's mother worked in the warehouse, too, at that time. Grandpa Chao did not know her; but after a while, he found that she worked very hard without a good paid. There were once he gave her one month's paid even though she is a totally stranger form him. Since that, he took care of Grandma Lee's mother as his own mother. At that moment, Grandpa Chao had no idea she has a daughter.

After long time, Grandma Lee's mother believed Grandpa Chao was a great person and would like to introduce her daughter to him. At the beginning, Grandpa Chao refused. He believed he would like to take care of an elder for no reason. Then, Grandma Lee came to Taipei . He helped her and found her sewing or washing jobs. Then, that was when the story started.

About fifty years ago, the intermarriages were rare, especially marrying to a Chinese husband was not acceptable. All the family members were against to it. Besides, the living styles are not the same, and the languages are not the same. For parents, they were worried about that if the war against the communist won, sons-in-law will bring their daughters back to China . Then, they will lose a daughter. They never thought that no one goes back to China ; they stayed in Taiwan and became Taiwanese sons-in-law.

We were curious whether Grandma Lee worried about marrying to Grandpa Chao. What she can do if they their life styles are different and their food tastes are not the same?

¡§It did not matter because my mother introduced him to me. And he is such a nice guy. After we got married, I adjusted very well. Nothing had many effects. The food is the same¡¨ Grandma Lee answered in short but strongly, ¡§When we got married, my husband cannot speak Taiwanese, and I don't speak much Chinese. However, we managed to communicate!¡¨

Grandpa Chao and Grandma Lee have six children. They all grow up and have their own business and families. However, Grandpa Chao and Grandma Lee still keep their habits of hardworking. They are still doing the recycling jobs.

Someone said ¡§God will always open a window for you on your hardest time¡¨. War made Grandpa Chao experience the hardship of leaving his hometown; war also made Grandpa Chao found her soulmate. For Grandpa Chao, Grandma Lee is the window God opened for him.
