It's hard to believe grandma Yang, Bau-Jen is 77 years old this year by looking at her. Passionate, strong, bright laughs,…those terms used to describe young people can also apply to grandma Yang.

Grandma Yang's healthy body is due to exercises and yoga. Besides, she practices aerobic dance few times a week. You will be amazed by the tenderness of her body. For example, during the interview, she demonstrated waste bending and touching the floor with her palms. None of us can do it. Grandpa Chang standing there and said with smile, this is only a “small piece of cake” for her.

Shanghai is the busiest and most important financial center in China since 1911. English-French rental region was there, so it was influenced by western culture deeply. Grandma Yang was born in Shanghai and lived in the English-French rental region. She was a big fan of movie stars like the young people these days when she was young.

“I was a fan of White Cloud. He was one of the most popular actors at that time. I saw every film he acted.” You could tell by looking at her recalling face.

Grandma Yang has many beautiful memories in Shanghai , including the first date with grandpa Chang, which took place at the “ Shanghai beach by Huangpu River ” at dusk.

“I lived at the rental region, so it's safe as Japanese would not fight over here. But outside the rental region, it was miserable. Many people were killed by bombing, and there're unbearable noises of aircrafts and bombs everywhere. There were many people wanting to enter but were stopped by the troops. I saw the terrible scene of pushing and running in person, which was miserable. Later on, Japanese entered Shanghai and killed many residents. So I still don't have good impression of Japanese till now.” Grandma Yang was still angry when talking about this

After listening to grandma Yang, we feel the same and think war is horrible. Hope there's no more wars in the world.

In 1948, grandma Yang and grandpa Chang got married in Shanghai ; meanwhile, the civil war was getting intense. In 1949, grandpa Chang and grandma Yang came to Kaoshiung Taiwan .

“In Shanghai , people are fastidious about their clothes and life, when going out, they have to dress up nicely. When I just arrived at Taiwan , I felt uneasy to see men wearing pants below their navels, looked kind of strong. Especially in winder, they wear heavy clothes with slippers, which was even stranger to me. But after communication and understanding for a while, I feel the people here are very pure and sincere. Shanghai people are good at business with hidden agenda. As for the language, I do grocery shopping and chat with neighbors. Learn it piece by piece, and the uneasiness has been overcome after a short time.”

Grandpa Chang and grandma Yang visited their hometown several times but never plan to live there, because they are used to “pure and sincere” Taiwan after sixty years.
