Stir the water with their claws to scare and catch their prey. When they rest, they often tighten their necks, and they also fly with their neck tightened and wave their wings slowly and elegantly.

Feature:The characteristic sign of this bird is that they have long red feet that look like they are walking on stilts. Their black beaks are straight and long. White body with black back and wings are really noticeable.
Life Style:They love to stay at deeper water as well as fallow water farms. It’s difficult to find them by the riverside and sandbanks. They are polyphagias, feeding on aquatic insects, fish ,amphibians and plants.

Feature: Olive color head, neck, back and tail. Visible white rings found around the eyes. Yellow feathers found on the throat and below the tail region. They have black beak and gray feet. They are tiny and cute and their songs are beautiful.
Life Style: They are the most commonly found stay bird in Taiwan, they are found in the forest of under 1500meter in altitude. They are social animals that stay in groups. Mostly feed on insects, pollen and fruits. During mating seasons, you can often hear the male birds singing in the morning.

Life Style: Wagtails are migrant birds that are commonly seen in Taiwan, Wagtails are not afraid of human. They are usually found feeding in the low altitude wetlands or farms. They look like a wave when flying. You will find them in winter times.

Common Name: Common Kingfisher
Feature: The male bird have black beak and red feet, dark green head and neck with light blue spots, short tails. The Kingfisher has orange feathers above head and ear, white throat, and orange chest. Kingfisher is a round cute bird. The females look just like the males, but have  red beaks.
Life Style: They are stay birds that can be commonly found in low altitude rivers and streams in Taiwan. They love to build their nest on the walls of the trench. However the trench walls are now build in cement; therefore they can not build their nest, that is why the population of the Kingfishers are decreasing drastically. They usually stand on the rock to find their pray, once they find it, they fly down to catch their pray.

Rostratula benghalensis

Scientific Name: Rostratula benghalensis
Common Name: Painted Snipe
Feature: The males and females are distinct in color, their abdomen are in white, and their beak long and curved downwards. The males have green and spotty head and neck. The female bird are burgundy, with their backs and wings are brown and spotty. Females are green with long black strips, white rings on their eyes, and male birds have yellow rings on their eyes.
Life Style: Tropical birds, they are common stay birds in Taiwan. They are social birds that mainly live in wet grasslands, swamp and water farms. They usually hide inside, so it is not easy to find them, They usually come out in the morning, and feed on insects and plant seeds. Their mating season is on March, females look aggressively for their mates they leave after laying 4 eggs, the male birds then act as mothers to their young, the female will then depart to find other mates.
