Beiguan Notation

The Gongche notation uses the seven basic notes of "Sian, Tse, Gon, Huan, Liu, Wu, and I" as the fundamental scale, which corresponds to Western music’s middle octave Do to Si scale. To notate higher pitches, a "ren" (亻)character is added next to the basic note character to differentiate them. To notate lower pitches, "Ho, Su, and I" are used to represent the lower part of the Sol to Si scale in Western music.

In Gongche notation, the rhythm is expressed through the use of the symbols "ban" and "liao".

These rhythm symbols are recorded on the right side of the musical scale and represent the strong and weak beats, as well as the length, speed, and other aspects of the musical sound, similar to the representation of the beat in Western music.
