Yuanlin Dongshan Zhun’an Temple

According to historical records, the founder of Zhun’an Temple in Yuanlin is a 12th-generation grandmother and she invited the Goddess Mazu from Longtou Village in Pinghe County, Fujian Province, China to Taiwan for worship. Initially, she was enshrined at the Tudi Gong Temple in the present-day Dongbei neighborhood of Yuanlin City. Later, she was moved to Zhen'anjiao by Lin Yanzu of the 16th generation.

In 1953, the Holy Mother (Mazu) showed her divine power and called for salvation. In an era where medical technology was not advanced, children's illnesses were treated with Chinese medicine, as Western medicine was scarce. Therefore, the Holy Mother began to call for salvation and established Zhun’an Hall. The Holy Mother was very effective in helping those who prayed to her, often prescribing herbal remedies that would cure their ailments.

In 1965, the imperial edict from the south arrived, decreeing that Zhun’an Hall be elevated to a temple. On December 2, 1966, the temple was completed and a grand ceremony was held to consecrate the deities. Thus, Zhun’an Temple became an important center of faith in the Dongshan area of Yuanlin.

In recent years, a group of young people with aspirations to serve Mazu and promote traditional culture established the Yuanlin Dongshan Mazu Youth Group. They are dedicated to developing Mazu's religious and cultural heritage, planning various activities, and organizing a series of Yuanlin Mazu Cultural Festivals to promote local culture and attract more visitors to Yuanlin.



After the introduction by the chairman of Zhun’an Temple, we gained a better understanding of the faith and the culture of Dongshan, and discovered that Zhun’an Temple often invites Dongshan Fongli Yuan to perform as their Beiguan band. The temple also invites them to participate in the procession and performances during the temple fair. The Dongshan Fongli Yuan is a prosperous group in the Dongshan and Yuanlin regions.
