Learning should not be limited to classrooms. We should step out of campus and step into our community and hometown. Through the research project, we brought children on field trips to visit mushroom cultivation experts within our community for them to strengthen communication and coordination ability through interviews. They also learnt the significance of cooperation in team work, increasing their learning interest.
We expect that children can learn through the research theme to recognize hometown community, learn from the experts their creative spirits and further cherish food.

There’s a saying that goes “Actions speak louder than words”. I had been teaching the class for more than a year and I had always been planning upon taking them to do something extracurricular to foster their multiple intelligences. Fortunately, through this chance, I was so moved by seeing them collecting information beforehand, coming up with a title, personally going on field trips and lastly compiling data and completing making website. During the activity, the group members consistently went through discussions and communications, cooperated with each other, did what they were responsible for, mustered the courage to raise questions and completed the tasks assigned by teachers. They acquired the ability to express their thoughts, to communicate, and to think independently and the spirit of team work, which are capabilities acquired in modern life and abilities you cannot learn from books. Through the experience, I saw children growing up and I saw their potential. I hope, in the coming future, they can use these acquired abilities to learn more!

By the chance, we hope the kids can learn more about local specialties and local culture, and we expect to foster their initiative learning and knowledge exploring abilities. Fortunately, there are many mushroom cultivation farms near our school, and thus, we decided to explore into mushrooms. In the process of the activity, children visited mushroom farms, organized and sorted data, compiled reports and learnt to make website. It is not only learning but also ability cultivation. In the completion of the website, what gratified me is seeing the kids growing up. I hope to help foster more of their capacities because in the era of continuous change, cultivating multiple intelligences is something that should not be delayed.
