Acknowledgement by Principal Huang Hong Tian

As an African proverb goes, “It takes the power of a whole village in pursuit of an education of a child”. We all know that education has a far-reaching impact on children. More importantly, you cannot shut school’s front gate expecting students to learn solely on campus, much less pay attention narrowly to paper-and-pencil tests. Education should be implemented in their daily lives, just as what John Dewy said, “Education is life and vice and versa”.

CyberFair is held upholding such spirit. Teachers bring students to have insightful explorations of mushroom farms, conducting researches and discussions on one of the most commonly-seen ingredients on the plates. Also, by means of probing into shiitake mushrooms’ growth and cultivation, they get acquainted with natural and technical cultivation skills and realize that farmers work hard to further learn to cherish things around them and value their health.

To have fully completed the project, our appreciation goes to the manager of Mushroom Tribe – Fang Shi Wen, Ren He Farm, almond mushroom cultivation expert – Huang Qing Song. They let the children returned fully loaded with precious knowledge that cannot be obtained solely in school lessons during many visits and tours. Their selfless devotion and pay out deserves admiration. We hope to dedicate our research outcome and words of appreciation to them to express gratitude.

We would like to extend our gratitude to Mr. Fang, who showed us around the farm, explained to us how mushrooms grew, informed us their business philosophy and introduced mushroom related products to us, which really broadened our horizon. During the interview, Manager Fang gave us abalone mushroom cookies to taste, and shiitake growing bags and a box of mushroom cookies for each of us to bring home with. It was a great harvest!

We are thankful to Manager Yu for his time to give us an interview and bring us to see around his king oyster mushroom farm. We had the chance to personally see mushrooms’ growing process and shiitake bags’ making process. He also answered all our questions, helping me to gain a better knowledge of king oyster mushrooms. I also experienced the hard work of a mushroom farmer and, more importantly, I learnt knowledge and courage that one cannot obtain solely from books. Our special thanks go to Manager Yu!

We want to thank Mr. Huang for telling us how almond mushrooms are cultivated through video calls. He informed us that, aside from growing in shiitake bags, there are other methods to grow mushrooms. The growing method should be applied based on mushrooms’ characteristics. We not only learnt more about almond mushrooms, but also experienced the convenience of video calls. Technology is truly a good helper in life.
