Old Streets

A. Roofed Street (Zhongshan Street)

The Roofed Street is to prevent consumers from the blazing sun, thunderstorm and wind. Business at both sides of the street set up the shed with opening in the center for light to form the unique "street without seeing the sky" in Taiwan. However, in 1933, the Roofed Street was demolished and facades of the buildings were required to be reconstructed by the stone-washing method, presenting a special style of the old street.

B. Nine-turns Lane

Zigzagging turns are the feature of lanes in Lukang, and they are designed to disperse wind. In winter days of strong wind, the zigzagging lands can block the wind and dirt in addition to the anti-burglary function. The well-known Nine-turns Lane is the best way of enjoying Lukang. Walking in the lane seems to be able to get you back to the ancient times, and you may appreciate historical sites such as Shi-yi Building and Yi Building.

C. Lukang Old Streets (Yaolin Street, Putou Street)

Yaolin Street and Putou Street were once the business center of Lukang and have been listed as the protected area of historical sites. Walking on the red brick road surface, you may be immersed in traditional shops to look for memories of childhood. The traditional shop front rooms of the buildings on the old streets of Lukang, coupled with jubilant red Spring Festival couplets, display a sense of old fashion and artistic flavor.
